I am running against 4 other candidates for an 8th Grade Student Election for the postition of Secretary. I am not quite sure what to write in my speech though ... considering the Student Council in 8th grade doesn`t really do anything. Any suggestions on my speech?

Dear Classmates, my name is _________ and I am running for Secretary to Student Council. To be honest, I am running because I know that this job is not one of the most important things to do in our school. I imagine most people never really think very much about the Secretary's position so it may seem odd that any one would want to ask you to vote for them to do it. But I am running for the job because I believe it is important to show that students are willing to take on public responsibility and that, as students, we deserve respect for who we are and what we do in this community. I am willing to stand up and be counted for all of you. I hope you will give me your support. Thank you.

wI agree with the other answer-es about not writing out the speech but notes on small flash cards are very useful We call them headliners. They will take you through the points you want to make.I would avoid saying that the Student Council does not do anything. That is a negative even if true. You could finally say something like' I know the Student Council is fired up to get more things going for the students and I promise to do my best not to disappoint them...'

Whatever you do, never write out a speech. You can have an idea of what you're going to talk about, but always speak from your heart, just as you would to everyday people.

I repeat: Never write out a speech. Never.

I would refuse to give a speech unless you can honestly describe what would you do as a secretary.
