is being gay a genetic disorder? i mean these people do defend their rights by saying that it's in the genes and there is no way of altering that. i thought of it as a psychological matter, the mindset is influenced at your most vulnerable, like when you were dumped by your girlfriend. It may also be a matter of phobia or trauma when the victim suffered from an attack by a woman, sexually or something.

i hope a very frank answer and preferably answers from a medical professional...

look at homosexuality as a disease it is chromosomes something messes up when a being is created in the womb just as it does when something goes wrong physically (like ms or downs syndrome) and i say being because homosexuality is not just limited to humans there is evidence all over the animal kingdom!!! just like a pedopdile cannot be cured (aside from removing the sexual drive castration etc.) like beings are born with both sexual parts!! stuff happens that we or anyone else can control, if all beings continued to procreate with no means of natural selection like homosexuality the planet would become overpopulated and wuld have run out of recources for means of life long before our time!

we have no way of knowing what genetics are going to happen when 2 people come together. Why would someone want to put them selves through a life time of hell if they did not know that their mind is telling them they are in the wrong body and attracted to the same sex. Sociaty thinks this is wrong but I don' beleive a person would choose this life ( at least the beginning will being told they are wrong all the time) Doctors still don't know exactly what happens in uterio when the babys brain is developing. But over the years and everything people have seen now I would say that yes there could be something that happens genetically to be predeturmined gay. And I would not call it a disorder.

For some time, the psychiatric community considered it a mental disorder. This was changed in 1975.

It's not a genetic "disorder" either. It's not an abnormal medical or physical condition (the definition of disorder).

And BTW, a person doesn't turn gay when their girlfriend dumps them, or there'd be a lot more gays in the world.

There is a genetic component to homosexuality, but it is only one of many factors in sexual oreintation. This was found looking at twins. In Identical twins, who by definition share identical DNA, if one is gay there is a 50 percent chance the other is gay. In non-identical same-sex twins (who share 50% same DNA) the percentage drops to high 30s.
Thus is is thought that 20% of your sexual orientation is genetic. Note I didn't use phrase disorder.

Its all mental. Some blame it on family lifestyle. But its all in your head. Like how girls look for something in a guy. Its your choice.
