Dont waste your money on Embry-Riddle, they are a shell of what they were 10 years ago. I meet a lot of pilots in the world, and most of the ER grads I meet are not exactly what I'd term "competent" Most are now spoiled rich kids who have never had to work for anything in their lives so they don't know how. Everything has been handed to them on a silver platter their whole lives, so naturally after they graduate they expect the airlines to come calling. Naturally, it doesn't work out that way so often. Many companies are now hasitant to hire ER grads because of the actions of the past generations of graduates.

If you go to ER you will spend at least $100,000 and graduate with a commercial single/multi-engine airplane.

You "could" go to UND, and spend about $50,000. Get a degree that is more highly regarded, and graduate with commercial single, multi-engine airplane, CFI and CFI-I instructor ratings. (Thats what I did)

but the most intelligent choice in the current industry climate is to attend a normal college and get a degree in something other than aviation. Take flying lessons on the side and become a CFI when you're done with that. You won't spend your first 5 years' salary on an education that way, and *when* you get furloughed you'll have a backup plan and a job waiting for you in the real world.

Embry-Riddle. One of the oldest & best in the world. They date back to the biplane days. U.S. News & World Report's 2007 "Best Colleges" guide has named Embry-Riddle number one in the Aerospace/ Aeronautical/ Astronautical Engineering category for schools without doctorate programs.

Emery Riddle isn't all they are cracked up to be. I graduated from Vincennes shortly before their program went downhill... We had several people who transferred to VU from Emery Riddle wash out because they couldn't keep up.
