"Hell" is a bad translation there. It's Sheol.

Does not prove that a place called hell exists where everlasting fire is used to torment the souls of the wicked forever. Such a hell does not exist in the Bible. There will be a time when the wicked is annihilated. Said fire lasting for a short time. Right now, both the righteous and wicked dead are resting in the grave, unconscious. That is the meaning of the word in the text (Ps. 139:8) you have quoted: grave. Oh! this is poetry. Get the deeper meaning within the context: God is omnipresent.
With Jesus as your Saviour, you have nothing to fear: not hell, and certainly, not the judgement!

Psalm 139:8. David states, " If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths (Sheol - the place of the dead), you are there.
Sheol is the place where the dead waited for Jesus' death for the forgiveness of sin (Old Testament). After Jesus' death, (New Testament or Covenant) the saved enter Heaven with Him or, the unsaved, Hell (Gehenna - the permanent Hell) without Him.
In the OT, Gehenna was the place where garbage was burned. The fire never died out. In the NT, Gehenna, is referred to as Hell, the place prepared by God for the punishment for Satan, his angels, AND THE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT CHOOSE JESUS AND DO NOT WANT TO BE WITH GOD. God will not be in the final Hell. It is complete separation from God. You can look up the difference in these two places mentioned in the Bible in the dictionary.

O LORD you have searched me and you know me,
You know when I sit down and when I rise;
you percieve my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going our and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue
you know it completely, O LORD.
You hem me in- behind and befoer;
you have laid your hand upon me,
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your Presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there,
If I make my bed in in the depths (hell - sheol - grave) you are there
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
If I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast
If I say, "Surely the darkenss will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
even the darkness will not be dark to you
the night will shine like the day
for darkness is as light to you.
These verses identify God's character in His omniscience (all knowing) and in His omnipresence (everywhere all the time) David is saying, there is no place that I can run, or hide my face, or hide my sins, or hide my activities. There is no place that God is not there already! He knows everything about your whereabouts in time and space. He knows where you have been and what you did there. Everything is laid bare before His all seeing eyes. God can not be decieved, He cannot be motivated by anyone. What He does He does so for His own desires.
These verses show you that God knows it already, you can not hide who you are. If you go to Hell the grave it will not be a place of joy, but of torment. He has left you while you are alive a way of escape. Take His offer of His Son's salvation. Ask for the forgiveness of yours sins. Confess your faults and Trust His Word. Walk in the light of His counsel. Read His Word, do not forsake the assembling of yourself with a body of believers. He is calling out to you by sending this verse your way.
But about Hell, even though God's Presence goes everywhere in Hell it will not be pleasant to know it, for there the spirit and its sinfullness is total and its darkness is total and the despairity of life is total. Someone has boasted, that I wont be lonely when I go to Hell, for all my friends are there. This will not bring comfort for there is no friendships nor fellowships in that place, but what could it bring even if it where just more darkness, dispairity, disdain and unhappiness to know an acquaintance there, the soul is set to be totally alone forever and ever. With no hope of escape. With no hope of release. With no hope of love. With no hope of light. With no hope of peace - no remedy ever forever.

It means that no matter where this guy goes, whether to the highest points of heaven (we would say space), into the depths of the sea, under the deepest places of the earth, even into Hell itself, there is no place he can go to escape God.
Kind of cool, really.

Hell is nothing but a state of mind. You can be alive and be in hell when you have horrible experiences. At any point, you have the power to change your own suffering and win over your challenges.

It means God is everywhere. He won't be helping you in hell, he'll make you aware that you rejected him, and that's why you ended up there.
