The pope says something stupid, what's new? He's an old silly man, who has only a symbolic function on this planet. You can agree or disagree with the symobolism of his job, but it's still just an old man with a symbolic job.
He made the connection between Islam and violence. Reaction from some muslim-groups to disprove this: threaten the pope with violence...That's kinda what the pope was talking about, you silly people!
All the muslims I know won't agree with that small group of violent muslims. All the Catholics I know won't agree with the generalized statement of the connection between Islam and violence.
So, why is this such a big issue? Why don't Muslims just laugh about it, and mock the pope? It would do their cause much more good.

I'm sure many do, the rest are following the same irony that happened after the Mohammad charactertures...an artist proclaimed Muslims were violent, and a small group rioted to show they weren't.
Stupid.
You're right to say that many if not most Muslims do NOT agree with such radical violence

I don't know how one could draw the same conclusion about islam as the pope did because muslims are peace loving nonviolent people who wouldn't dare blow up even a tiny little fly......do you sense the sarcasm?? I hope so because I'm laying it on pretty thick. You muslims are on the Internet so that tells me you have some access to world news...besides jihad.com, I mean. The truth speaks volumes about what islam is about. They can't laugh it off because their religion is violent and evil just as the pope said. The actions of the clerics speaks volumes. How many of these muslim spiritual leaders are speaking out condemning the evil and violence of the terrorists amongst them? I haven't heard any...none...zip. Their silence is deafening. That should tell you something about true islam. True there are small minority out blowing themselves up, but the rest of the muslims that actually know what the koran says are cheering on the sidelines.

So THAT'S what's been happening with the Pope lately. I saw "Pope" show up on Yahoo News article titles but didn't take time to find out what was going on... more butt-hurt religious fringe fundamentalists threatening the very thing for which they've been criticized... some things never change.
