It all depends on a number of factors.

1. How good are you?
2. What you specialize in?
3. The quality of the materials you use? (the better the quality of materials - the more you can charge)
4. Location Location Location (i.e...you can charge more in NYC than in Fargo, N.D)

Most Interior Designers I know charge a fee (design costs, profit, etc) + actual material cost + labour cost. Their annual incomes vary from about 20K a year to over 200K

Interior designers, just like furniture sales people, are usually paid on commission. Therefore, the amount of the pay varies from job to job. IF they are able to sell their customers on higher priced items, they make more money.

If you are planning to be an interior designer, you will need some specialized classes and tons of art training... all of which are interesting and challenging. Go for it!! :)
