I have just watched Tony Robinson's programme on Channel 4 (UK) about the End Times, which is entitled the Doomsday Code.
http://www.channel4.com/culture/microsites/C/can_you_believe_it/index.html
I found it very interesting. I would like to point out that I am a Christian, this question is not about faith in that sense, it is about people's views on the book of revelations.
Should it be taken literally? Is it a standard Christian view point to be 'an Endtimer'? What about the Rapture, who here thinks that it will happen? Any ideas on when?
Another point I would like to raise is about Noah and Job. If I understand correctly, the world was flooded because basically people had sex with whoever they chose. "the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose." Genesis 6:2
Is it not true that a city was destroyed because of similar occurences? This is told in Job I believe.

Now forgive me if I am wrong, but does the world not seem to heading in that sort of direction? Huge increases in pornography everywhere, average age of people losing their virginity down to around 16, when before it would have been at least 20. Would I be wrong therefore in suggesting that there could be a similar occurence in the future? I am aware that God made a promise never to destroy the earth again though.
I would also like to mention that I am 16 years old, and am just generally interested in this whole topic so would appreciate any views you have.
Please read my question carefully, answer all of it, or just one bit. Christians, atheists, agnostics, Muslims... everyone is welcome.
I am only 16 and regret that I have little knowledge of the Bible, I hope that perhaps you can give me some of your views on the subject. Thanks.

one of those rewards that will be given to true believers in Heaven is looking towards the coming of Jesus!! I hear so many Christians worried about Jesus coming back. I ask them, why? Because they want to live out their life........well, I do too, but as a true believer it is commanded to look at our Saviours coming!!!!!! I look forward to the day when I hear the archangel's trumpet sound and hear that voice say, "Come Up Hither." For the true believers will be caught up in the air with those who died before, who were in Christ.
You should take Revelations seriously, because as a Christian we should be preaching about the coming judgement upon the world and nations for those who reject God. Revelations is about the judgements that are to come, forewarning us of what we could escape!!! Jesus showed this to John, so that people would be saved. So when you stand before God you cannot say well I didn't know what the future held. God will reply, "The book of Revelations is what I revealed to you and you ignored the warnings."
revelations is the final end to Satan and his angels, for every sin does not go unpunished. satan commited sin and his punishment is coming, his end is at hand, for he took will be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone.
"The sons of God" you mentioned are actually angels. Read the Book of Enoch and it will explain everything to you in full view. The group of angels that were assigned to watch over mankind on the Earth, became lustful of the women. Which they chosen to commit sexual sins and turn their backs on their position and God. These are fallen angels, who are totally separate from the angels that fell with Satan. Those fallen angels turned to their own desires and wants. That is a major no when it deals with an angel, because they cannot have redemption for their sin.
The outcome of the fallen angels having sex with the women of the Earth spawned the great giants of the Earth. these giants were known to have many more fingers and toes and to be anywhere between 9-14 feet tall. They defiled every living creature on Earth, they were not in God's image and they consumed whatever they could. This made it unbearable for man to live on earth, for their was so much more bloodshed and sin was running rampant on Earth. The giants are mentioned a sentenced after I think, but find the book of Enoch on the web and read it! It is hard to understand because of the context of the language and how it is written, but it does explain what the world was like before the Great Flood.
Sodom and Gomorrah(however you spell it) was destroyed because of their enormous lust for sin. Which was one those sins was sexual immorality. The men of the city even wanted to have sex with the two angels that God sent to destroy the city!!! How sick.

I don't believe... I know it will happen... I didn't ask to know, but things happen to me this way, have done all my life... since inside a coma, lasting many months, at the age of eight, I've been a psychic medium and have had endless personal proof we do not die, and are not alone... I'm a real life Alison in 'Afterlife' Channel 3... currently on air as I write.
And no, I never had a magic mushroom, as Tony suggests for John... never been on drugs, never had mental health treatment, or ever been depressed, or had any anti-depressants. And I'm the most unlikely candidate to need it according to GPs.
And am lucky enough, to have allowed the press to question my GP and check my 'sanity' and was on the front pages back in 1973 with a 'sanity' verification, as they used my story. And was declared a medium by the then, Bishop of Peterborough.
I hate the word... it's bland and it means mediocre! I, am far from bland... and mediocre... and have been close to death more times than I can count, have seen the 'other side' and returned... been blessed with miracles so many times, I'm amazed that God puts up with me!
I watched it too, that programme... I didn't know it was on until a friend told me it had started... while we spoke by phone tonight and I mentioned that I'd just bought the End Times DVD from the USA, and it had arrived in the post yesterday...
I watched the rest of it... tonight's programme with Tony Robinson, and yes, I'm one of those like the disciple John, the oddballs who have visions and premonitions, that DO come true, had many of them, all my life... and they terrified me because the first was death... my dad's... as was the third... my nephew... and I could not stop them... I ran away from it for almost half my life... until I faced something that was decidedly bad, the worst anyone can face... and got splashed across the papers, because others were drawn in.
Today I take it as natural... and things happen all the time, every day, day or night, there is no witching hour!
I call it my own personal cinema... the pictures in my head... and mine, about this subject, was in 1977... it was very lengthy... like a cut and spliced compilation of years and years of newsreels that had never happened... since when, at least three quarters of what I saw, has happened.
The rest, I will not share.
I was afforded only one word during that particular vision... it was a number... no, not the beasts number, just a two diget number... I've been trying to make sense of it ever since!
My message is, open up your minds and hearts... God exists... and so does the other side.
Faith... that is what this life is all about... you must have faith!

I can't recollect anything on that subject in Job. Genesis is allegory not history. The sons of god? The daughters of men? Well. And why shouldn't they marry whomever they chose?
There are many stories about a great flood, not just the one that the bible tells. One assumes that this did happen. One theory has it that it was the flooding of the mediterrean basin, or the rapid rising of the waters of the already existing med (which did happen about 12000 BC), or the flooding of the Black Sea basin.
In any case it didn't have much to do with letchery.
The subject of revelations falls into almost the same category as genesis. However Revelations is the outstanding work of a visionary. It seems to me that it is addressing the progress and purging of the soul rather than the end of the physical world.

How can the second coming of Jesus our Lord and Savior be a doomsday concept?
John 3:16: The world from Eden. Jesus was crucified. Acts 2:31-35; Resurrected.
Acts 1:9-11 and Rev.1:7; Ascended to heaven to return in like manner.
To the world from Eden, that will end and Eph.3:21; Jesus world is without end. Rev.20:1-6; It is 1000 years and then perfect for the kingdom of God.
Heb.9:27 Man and Judgement.Jude 6; 2Pet.2:4; Angels and judgement 1Cor.6:2,3 and Saints are judges.
1Cor.15:22 As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive, at end of world
that began in Eden as LOST and the second coming of jesus is to SAVE the LOST world and make it perfect.
Matt.24:3[ end ],7,14,15,22,34,36-38 [ Only God knows the day and hour ];
WHAT ABOUT THE EARTH?
There will be a new heavens and a new earth 2Pet.3:3-9 and 13; Gen.6:13; I will because of their violence, destroy them with the earth. The life sustaining earth is
gone. For all to have eternal life, there must be a life sustaining earth and it has been a promise. Isa.45:18; 65:17; 66:1,22; Rev.21:1-5; It was perfect before Eden and sin.
Adam and Eve were created souls, since them born souls die, then souls are resurrected and each in his own order as 1Cor.15:22-28,51-53; Thousands for the new heavens, and billions for the new earth in the reign Rev.20:1-6,12,13; of 1000
years, all is made perfect for the kingdom of God.
Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed for being lawless and despising government.
In the days of Abraham and Lot, before the time of Job.

No one knows when the end will come only God knows and the sons of God were said to be fallen angels who lay with mortal woman. This was not in God plan and he destroyed them for it. (Not the fallen angels but the children that they had). I don't know what a fallen angel looks like so i cant really say if it is happening again. But God said that he wouldn't destroy the world by water again. This time its supposed to be by fire.

It was an interesting show. The fact that rapture is not scriptural at all was an important point i guess. A Christian cant be asked to accept something which is not in his book. Also interesting was the fact that there were many books of apocalypse.

The end of the world is nigh and the Muslims with the assistance of all the bible punchers will make sure of it. All of us infidels will probably go to heaven while the Christians and Muslims will likely fry in the eternal fires of hell.

I also just saw that program, you have good taste :)
My personaly feelings at the moment are anger at teh Christian communiy for not rooting out this insanity within its own ranks. I am an Atheist, and proud of it. However, i dont care if Christians want to believe, as long as they accept we dont want to be preached to. However, the sheer horror of the 'end-timers' is that they are pulling us towards a self-fulfilling armaggedon, to further their insane beliefs
