NO...you don't need to even own a car to have a driver's license, so why would you need proof of insurance?

The license you are applying to get renewed is for you as a driver of any vehicle. Normally a person would only drive one or more personal vehicles that they own. Proof of insurance is required in North Carolina for license renewal. I live and work in NC, so I have been through it before.

It depends on he state that you live in. I live in Illinois and the laws is that if you want a drivers lisences you must drive to get. If you renew sometimes they may have you drive again if you have some restrictions before. I am wondering the same thing b/c my licenses expired two years ago. I ended up w/ a flat tire at my local community college and was told that it is a misdemenor to have an expired licences after 45 days unless you are military personnel. Since he did not see me physically driving he could not arrest me, but I did get my car keys taken and told if my car was on the road or property I would be arressted. The police can run your plates and see that your licesence was expired even if you are a passenger in your own car, which then makes insurance not valid too. Good Luck.

Would be nice to know where you live since different states have different rules. But I would say that no you shouldn't have to have insurance to have a driver's license renewed. If it is expired then you might have to retake the driving or written test, and for that you will need an insured car and someone drive you to the DMV to take the test.

In SC if there is a car registered in your name then you must show proof of insurance in order to renew your license. If there is not a vehicle registered in your name then you do not have to show proof of insurance. We also have to renew our license within a month of our birthday or else we have to take the drivers test again.

Not in Tx. I don't know about online b/c I always just go to the office and have it renewed. In Tx you just need proof that you are school if you are under a certain age. And I think maybe your SS card to prove who you are. Maybe, I haven't done it in almost a year.
