They didnt tell me that I was supposed to keep the old permit, so when i went back to see what they could do, the dmv manager looked up my old permit on their systems, and she signed the back of my ew permit say " old permit destoyed in error" with her signature on the back. When I go to take my driving test next month, am i going to go through a bunch of trouble because i dont have the old permit, or should i be okay as long as the managers signature is on back of my permit?

You should be fine, just get the person's name that signed it and go back to that same DMV to take your test. If there are any concerns they can take it up with them. But I doubt there will be a problem. Good luck on your driving test!

I live in California.

The prior permit shows that you had your permit for the required 6 months, when a new permit is issued the computer doesn't keep prior info. In these cases the technician helping you would get a managers password. The manager already signed off on your permit so there should be no problem. I would recommend however going back to the same DMV that signed off on it.
Good Luck on your Drive!!!

If you have a no requirement in California to keep your old license.

If you already renewed your license, why do you have to be retested? There is no requirement for that. You can even renew over the internet!

So I quess I am lost regarding your question. There is no such requirement!
