My daughter is thinking, seriously, about becoming a born again Christian. I am agnostic and there for cannot advise her. She is almost 17, also she knows some, I don't know how well: ex BACs who have warned her against this sect, because within it's ranks are some rather unsavoury characters, they are forever quoting the New Testament and Jesus' name is used in every thing they say and they leave no room for open mindness.

Can you help her? Peace to you all.

Not sure how much of a reader your daughter is, but Bertrand Russel makes a lot of good points that you could use to present the case against Christianity. But really, all you can do giver her the info and let her make her own descision. Just make sure she is well informed.

She is old enough to make her own decision. I'm also BAC, you did not mention what sect, so I have no advice to give on that. But Christians believe in the following points:
1. The deity of Jesus Christ
2. The triune God: Jehovah the Father , Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
3. The virgin birth of Jesus.
4. The crucifixion of Jesus.
5. The resurrection of Jesus.
6. The coming rapture of the church.
7. The millennial reign of Christ.

I hope this helps. Grace and Peace

...I have been a "BAC" for 28 years. I think you will agree there are unsavory characters and misfits in most any professional or group. This does not disqualify Christianity, any more than some quack doctors disqualify the medical profession.
...This is really true - "but for the grace of God go I." I have feet of clay - I have sinned since my conversion - we are all flawed and like sheep, tend to go our own way at times - this is no excuse, but it does happen, and the Lord forgives us when we do.
...Indeed, Jesus Christ is the only one I know who could say, "Which one of you convicts Me of sin?" Have you seriously considered His claims as Lord?
...There are cults about - I would be careful, too.
...If you would ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you, He will. One does not have to shelve his brains to become a Christian. I must agree that some things we do make us look peculiar to non-believers.
...Acts 16:31 say, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved." And we must come by faith - trusting Him and His word. And by the way, I have always found or received satisfactory answers to hard question skeptics ask - there are good answers for them (a good book is "Answers to Tough Questions Skeptics Ask about Christianity" by John McDowell".)
... I would encourage you and your daughter to read the Bible, starting in John's gospel, and get in a good Bible-teaching, Christ-honoring church, with an elder board who are in charge, and where you can grow and discover what spiritual gifts God has given you.
...I do not use Jesus name in everything. I know some who feel they should and do - I do profess Him as Lord and Savior.
...Sir, I do quote the NT and the OT - the Bible is our guidebook for life and practice, why wouldn't we? What other reference book would we go to - what other book claims to be God's word?
...One quality of truth is narrowness - for instance, it is not closed-minded put unleaded fuel into a car that calls for "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY". I am not sure what specifics you have in mind re: "they leave no room for open mindness." Maybe you could give some examples.
...But first and foremost - come to Jesus by faith, asking His forgiveness, and that He would make you the person he wants you to be - that is where each start the Christian life.
...If I can be of any help to you, please contact me - it would be my privilege.

well, first look at what it means to be born again, what does a person do to be born again? they repent of their sins, that is they confess and forsake them to never do them again, and they put their faith and trust in Christ. The transformation after that is so radical of an experience that Jesus called it being born again, and so it is, because its God giving the person a new heart with new desires.

Now, I am born again, but more importantly, I'm just a biblical christian, who obey's God joyfully.

Now, she has found truth, she doesn't need to continue looking. by that I mean, if a person is searching for one truth out of lets say, 500 possible truths, and that person find the truth at lets say, 250. Then there is no need to go through the other 250, the truth is already found.

BACs aren't a sect any more than agnostics are a cult. There are many groups who claim to represent the BAC way of life and some are as bad as you fear. Check out the group and if they are hateful, acusatory, distrustful of you and your beliefs instead of accepting, then advise your daughter to stay away from them. Better yet, help her find a loving group of Christians who can help her grow as a person.

I have been a christian for many years, being born again means giving your heart and life to Jesus, as Jesus died for all of us and paid the price for us so that we may enter into a father and child relationship with God, Jesus is the only Son of God, and no one can have a relatioship with God, unless they have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, Jesus said that He is the door to the Father{God} and there is no other way to be saved, but through believing in Him. When born again christians use His name in prayer and praise, they are doing what Jesus told them to do which was to ask for anything in His name and He would do it, But I have learned that He will only give us what is best for us, and what is according to his will for us. The whole bible speaks about Jesus from beggining to end, and the whole bible is there for all Christians, so that we can learn about God, not just the new testament should be used but all the bible. If your daughter, feels that she wishes to become a born again christian then that is a good thing, because God is obviously working in her heart, and she should go ahead and give her heart to Jesus, she could pray a prayer like this, Lord Jesus I know that am a sinner, and that you died on the cross for me, forgive me for all of my sins and come into my heart and life Lord Jesus, and be my Lord and Saviour, amen. As for churches, find a church where she will be happy, it doesn't have to be the church that you have mentioned, but she could go to a methodist, eveangelical, or baptist church somewhere close to home, if she does give her life to God she will not be sorry, because He is so wonderful to know and He will never let her down, as He has never let me down, I hope that I have been able to help you and your daughter, I will pray for you both.

I'm a born-again Christian who used to be an atheist, and I can tell your daughter it's the most important decision she'll ever make! My life has changed to be infinitely better, as a result of God's love. The reason Christians talk about Jesus so much is because we worship Him as our God, and want other people to be able to experience this as well! I'll pray for you and your daughter, that you might both know salvation in Jesus Christ! I'm so happy for her!

Hi George, First of all there is no such thing as an ex-born again Christians, God tells us in John 10:28-30 "My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand."

Once you are truly Born Again you can not lose your salvation. Those who believe that your only saved when you are good and you will lose your salvation if your not good are following a Gospel of works and do not have the Grace of God.

Also there is nothing that we can do that will make us Born Again, God does it all. In John 6:44 we read "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." Add to this John 15:16a "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you,..." And Romans 3:10-11 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understands, there is none that seeks after God." And John 3:27 "A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from Heaven."

I don't know which sect your daughter is considering joining but she should stay out of Churches that don't teach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. There are many false Gospels in the world that are very seductive, they promise riches and wonders, who speak in tongues and believe in signs and wonders. These Churches are leading their followers to eternal damnation.

If it is what she want, it is the path she must explore. I would suggest that you be there for her, and let her follow her own heat. She is 17, depending on an number of variables, by the time she is 37 or so, she will figure out that it is not what it should be and move on. Come to think of it you might want to get a copy of "The book your church doesn't want you to read." That may at least give her two sides to the issue. I will give you the link.

According to christianity, born again is a way of forsaking the old evil ways such as lying, stealing, fornicating e.t.c. and following a very strict way of what God actually want, which is very rightous and upright in every thing you do.its not a sect, its a strict believe of some christians
