I know someone who is about to purchase clothing for a photo shoot, but can't afford to keep all the clothes. They are planning on returning all the clothes back to the store after the shoot. They don't have any appropriate clothes at home.

***I asked this question to prove a point to somebody- I also think this is morally wrong and extremely tacky. Through the answers I received, I managed to convince my friend not to carry out this action. Thanks!!!***

That's gross. It's not okay at all, especially for the unsuspecting person who will purchase the already worn clothing. And how would you feel if you were the retailer who this person did that to?

No, definitely not okay. The person who "needs" the clothes for the photo shoot should either rent, if possible, or borrow, so that the true intention for using the clothes is known in advance ... not purchase clothing from a store and then return where someone else expects to be receiving a new item.

You asked the question, "Is it tacky to buy clothes and then return them after a photoshoot? What is the reason you are returning it after the photoshoot? If you have already used the product and you have bought it with the intention of returning it, that would appear illegal and to most people that probably would appear tacky also. Only you can be the judge of if that is tacky or not. But reality is that doing that is illegal. You are stealing from the company -even if it is temporary. If you buy with the express intention of returning the item after you use it, that is stealing. Return policies are for people who have a legitimate problem with a particular item, not for people who want to borrow the stores items and then get refunds. Is doing something illegal tacky? You answer that question. It does not matter what the reason for your doing it. If you do it as you describe it, that is illegal. And it is against the law of God. That's your answer. It is just one opinion. You have your own opinion too, whatever that is.

I think people who do that (using things for some event and then returning them) pretend to be smarter than those who don't do that and say it's morally incorrect and illegal, while what they really are doing is being dishonest, and they know that.

Is that photo shoot so important that he wants to STEAL (yes, I think that is robbery because he's gonna use something that isn't his without asking) clothes to disguise himself? Or is he afraid of showing himself with what he really has?.. poor guy!

Moreover, he would think now it is something smart to do, but in some few years, when he grows older and mature, he will see that picture and believe me, he is going to be embarrassed of himself.

I wouldn't want to buy those clothes after she stood around posing for pics under hot lights in them. Any legitimate co. would pay for her clothes. She shouldn't have to provide them herself.l Just what is she modeling/selling or are these photos just designed to get her modeling jobs? It is dishonest to wear clothes and then take them back if there is nothing wrong with them.

I would if i was in the situation you presented. As long as it is not like a porno shoot or something where you are in panties and thongs you are taking back to the store. But the person isn't wearing them to a club and getting sweat all over them they are basically trying them on but for a longer period of time and taking pics in them. I see nothing wrong with it!

No, morally it is wrong. If it was right the person would be able to tell the store the real reason for return.

It is never ok. Not even after a wedding. Yes, I know someone who did this. Tacky, illegal & just plain wrong.

That is the same as renting clothes - for free. Thus it is stealing.
