I just looked that up for myself last night. I was hungry too and wanted a potato, but as our oven is out of order at the moment, I had to resort to microwaving. I don't think I'll ever bake in an oven again!

All you have to do is put a potato into the microwave for 5 minutes. After that, you flip it over and put it in for another 5 minutes. After that it should be pretty soft. You can cut it in half or down the middle, however you prefer. Add toppings, butter, etc... put it back in for another minute if you'd like, but that's up to you.

Easy, huh?

I just read every body's recipe and I do mine a little differently. Scrub your potatoes well. Dry of with paper towels. Using a knife I go around the potato poking 4 holes turning the potato until you have 4 sides with holes. Rub with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and place one potato in a plastic sandwich bag. Fold the bag over, don't seal, and place folded edge under the potato. Then every how many potatoes you are cooking, count about 4 min. each. Place the potatoes on a microwave safe plate so that they look like flower petals. When done-check the largest potato, take out of the microwave if it's done. Leave potatoes in plastic bags til you are ready to eat. Then remove from the bag, cut the potatoes and add whatever toppings you desire. They will taste like they came out of the oven. I hope this helps.

Well, here are some directions on how to do it.

"Baked" Potatoes in the Microwave
Baked potatoes are almost impossible to ruin. Well, with one very notable exception: it is absolutely, positively, essential that you prick each potato liberally with a fork. If you do not, they will explode. One other caveat: if you are the type of person who loves a crisp potato skin, then do not microwave your potatoes. You will achieve that crispier skin only in the conventional oven. Here's the recipe.

2 medium baking potatoes
optional toppings: fat-free sour cream, crisp (canadian) bacon, non-fat yogurt, chives, chili, diced ham, broccoli, low-fat cheese, pureed peas, minced herbs, a white sauce, or just plain margarine or butter.
Scrub the potatoes well to remove any dirt and dry well. Liberally prick each potato with a fork. Spread paper towels on the bottom of your microwave oven and place the potatoes about an inch apart in the center of the microwave. Microwave the potatoes on high for 8 minutes. Remove the potatoes and wrap tightly in foil. Let stand for 5 minutes. If desired, split the potatoes and add butter, cheese, herbs, or other items and rewrap. Let sit for another 5 minutes. Note: Never place aluminum foil in the microwave.

Next time you are at the store, you should buy "potato buds." They are just potato flakes used for mashed potatoes and they are soooo great. Easy, cheap, and very quick alternative to cooking potatoes and then mashing them up.

Scrub skin. Poke holes. And I usually start at about 5 minutes and flip it over and cook for another 3 min or so ... Then I cut it open, butter it up, shred a little cheese and warm for about thirty-seconds. The time may vary between the size of the potato and the power of your microwave, so keep checking while you cook.

Are you serious???? Well, if you are, here's how to bake them:

Make sure you wash potatoes with a brush to remove all dirt. Next, puncture potatoes with a fork to prevent them from exploding in the microwave. About 6 or 7 holes are OK.

Microwave 1 potatoe at a time. I'm certain your microwave has a potatoe setting. Bake as directed and them remove potatoe and let it cook for about a minute. Sprinkle with butter and salt. Bon appetit!

Wash the potato. No need to peel it and pierce several times with a fork to allow the steam to escape without blowing up the potato. Cook on high starrting at about three minutes and test with a fork for doness.

I put the potato in for about 3 minutes, depending on size, then I turn it over and give it another 2 to 3 minutes. I do it just about everyday. It is real easy. Some people say to poke them with a fork or something, I never have and I have never had one blow up on me. I put butter, sour cream and shredded cheese on mine. I eat the peeling and all. Don't peel it first. You can also slice a few and put them in a frying pan with hot oil and fry some. I like the brown ones, it is like homemade potato chips.

Wash it off really good, take a knife and stick through it on several sides and put in the microwave for 2 min, if it is tender it is ready to eat, if not put in for about 40 more seconds.

Rinse any excess dirt off the skin.
Pierce with fork several times all over.
Put on microwave safe plate and cook 4-7 min. depending on your microwave.
Cut open and serve with whatever toppings you prefer (I like sour cream and shredded cheddar, and and a small pat of butter with fresh cracked pepper)
