For those of you who are veterans or currently serve in the military. What was your favorite weapon and why? And what did you name her? For me, I suppose it would have to be the M203 because its what I was first assigned when I got to my unit. I didn't like the idea of carrying explosive rounds, but I felt secure with it. I named her Angel (short for Angelique) because that was the name of my gf at the time(though she didn't like the idea of having a weapon designed to kill named after her.) A close second was the SAW 249 just because of the volume of fire it had, but not as light as the M4.

-Comic Book-
At Fort Bragg, I had the opportunity to fire WWII weapons from both the Allies and Germans. I'd say that the Garand was my favorite, I can see why its yours too.
-KIA- You liked the smell of CLP?? well, I guess I understand, like the way I like the smell of gasoline. I actually liked the smell of shoe polish better. I liked firing 50 cals at the range, but I hated manning it on recon missions. It made you a target.

While I was over-seas, I was issued an M-4 Carbine that I named "Serena" because it sounded slightly Arabic (I was in Iraq) and because whenever she was near, I felt serene. She drastically changed my opinion of the M4/M16 weapon system. She never jammed once. Shot better than I can. I also carried an M-9 Beretta that I called "Angel" after my wife's nickname. She reacted differently than your girlfriend, she was very touched that I named the pistol after her. On Serena, I attached a small wallet sized photo of her on the magazine well. I'd have preferred to have a .45 ACP as that's my personal weapon (well, one of them, I own a few different pistols, rifles, shotguns, etc.). For a crew served, we had a 240 Bravo that we mounted on the humvee I preferred to have. It was old, but it shot reliabily. And it was a nice compromise between the power of the .50, not over-penetrating too much, decent range, and number of rounds that could be sent down range.

My favorite by far has got to be the MK19 40mm automatic grenade launcher. There is nothing more badass than a machine gun that shoots grenades. Unfortunately, I have never gotten to fire it at an actual target, the bigwigs in theater nowadays think it causes too much collateral damage.

M2 .50cal is a close second, especially with APIT rounds. When you fire it at night, and you see the tracers streak toward the target, then burst in the incendiary effect, well afterwards you just want to find a beer and a woman.

My favorite was the A-7D Corsair II loaded with 10 Mk 82s (500 pound bombs) and 1008 rounds of 20MM fired at 6000 rounds per minute with two external 370 gallon fuel tanks. Lots of kick tail and staying power. Like our sticker read "A7 pilots penetrate deeper, stay longer and drop a bigger load." Avionics and the computerized weapons delivery system made it the best air-to-ground weapons platform in its day, deadly accurate.

My good 'ole M16 A2 Service Rifle. Yes, it was my friend. Did I mention that I love the smell of CLP?

P.S. Firing the 50 CAL was a close second...

I really liked the .45. In the words of my dad (WWII machine gun team leader): whatever you point it at, it will hit. Whatever it hits, it will knock down.

I also like the M1 carbine although it was out of the inventory by the time I enlisted. I own one now and it's a nice little weapon.

When I was a Private many moons ago I carried the M60 machine gun. It was a pain in the *ss to carry but AWSOME to shoot. My Team Leader used to tell me, "get the pig, it's hungry and needs to eat". I never understood what it meant, but it was my cue to get my weapon and shoot it...
