Depending on the age, here's another idea...
Tell a spooky story with all the lights out (and the following things nearby):
About a policeman who went into a suspect's house and he found all sorts of strange things in the house... he found worms wiggling all over the floor (pass around a bowl of wet, cooked spaghetti noodles), and so on and so on... they scream, and they laugh, and they have a good time, if they aren't too young! I'd say 7 or 8 at least...
Hard boiled eggs can be eyeballs, a pile of thread can be spider webs, potato chips crushed can be lizard scales, etc....

One year I got a twister game and led the kids to believe they would be playing twister. Instead, I put matching food on all the spots (i.e. green jello, spaghetti sauce, blueberries, etc.) and they had to play the game with the messy stuff. It was fun.

A halloween version of tag- someone is the monster and the rest of the peopel r regular peopel monster touches them and there the monster. i know its lame, but if your son is little im sure he'll like it.
