PLEASE remember, in answering this question, that the original New Testament is in GREEK, NOT ENGLISH. And Jesus spoke either Aramaic or Hebrew, not English. Therefore, do not tell me that it's ok to call him "Dad" but not "Father." Because "ABBA" can be translated as either Dad OR Father.

Why not call any man Father? Can you call any woman "Mother"?

I'm uncertain of the specific verse, but it's in the New Testament.

I call my father, "Dad" when I speak to him, and "Father" when I talk about him. I am asking this question because some people told me not to call a priest "Father" because Jesus said not to call any man "Father." And one even said they do not call their own father "father" but "Dad."

I'm saying "Dad" and "father" are no different because they are both translations of the same Aramaic or Hebrew word.

The term "father" is used here as a title, what you would call a spiritual leader, as some religions do. Consider Matt. 23:6-9 "They ( the Pharisees) like the most prominent place at the evening meals and the front seats at the synagogues, and the greetings in the marketplaces and to be called Rabbi by men. But you, do not You be called Rabbi, for one is your teacher, whereas all You are brothers. Moreover, do not call anyone Your father on earth, for one is your Father, the Heavenly One." Clearly we can see the comparison between "Rabbi" and "Father" as titles of the clergy. Here "father" is not used in the familial sense as it is in Exodus 20:12 where we are told to "Honor your father and your mother".

It is talking about using that as a religious title, not as the name of our male parent. Has nothing to do with what you call your parent. But rather it is an acknowledgement that God allow holds the postition, rights, power and authority of a "father" over your spiritual life. We should not be giving that title or position to any mere man.

I have no clue how Catholics justify doing that.

I don't. He has been dead for 23 years.

However from Strong's the translation of Abba is literally father, not Dad.

G5
Ἀββᾶ
Abba
ab-bah'
Of Chaldee origin [H2]; father (as a vocative): - Abba.

interior Jewish lifestyle, there have been 2 diverse thoughts of "fatherhood". One develop into in accordance to impregnating a lady. the different is in accordance to a range to position your existence lower than the administration and tutorage of a few different person. In context, in Matthew 23 Jesus conversing about the area that non secular leaders are to have interior your existence. it really is this second theory that he's addressing. not something in this scripture is meant to forbid someone from recognizing or addressing the guy who help to provide them existence as father. fairly it really is conversing of the custom of a Jewish male to position himself lower than the mentoring of a rabbi or different respected chief. in the time of that element, he dealt with the mentor/instructor as a "father" and surrendered all legal rights, funds, and so on. to him. the teachings and proclamations of that individual were regularly dealt with as being more effective than even the scriptures of the regulation of God. what number "cult" communities have we considered in modern years that were burned of their compounds, inebriated Kool-help in South American, or had their children grew to develop into into sex slaves by employing such leaders. it really is a prepare that Jesus spoke hostile to that prepare in this scripture. Now the Catholic church justifies using that element period for its priest I easily have under no circumstances been in a position to discover an answer for.

Your not to call any man Father in a spiritual sense. One more thing some certain so called Christians are doing wrong although they won't admit it, claiming they don't do it in a spiritual sense even though he is their spiritual leader per say.

This is in reference to a spiritual Father, as in God the Father. In hebrew, "Father" means the source. So to call a spiritual leader "Father" is blasphemy.
