Absolutely - I do it all the time!

There really was whipped cream before 1910 - they didn't have electricity, but they had whipped cream, ice cream, real butter, etc.

A large (2") wire whisk is necessary - just continue to whisk, using a rythym and a cold bowl. You will get great results. I prefer this method, because I can stop and sample the ingredients I put in (vanilla, lemon zest, orange pulp, cinnamon, etc.). It is a slower process, but I think that it allows for more accurate flavouring!

Whisk away!

1. pour a pint of whole cream in a large mixing bowel. 2. add granulated sugar to taste. (everyone has different tastes, ya need to experiment) 3. add about a teaspoon vanilla extract (again, to taste) 4. (and maybe a few pinches of nutmeg...) 5. (...and/or perhaps some powdered chocolate?) 6.mix with mixer until peaks form and stay... but everyone has different ideas about how they like the consistency of their whipped cream, so experiment. Just make sure you don't mix too long or you'll end up with sweetened butter! * nice on pies like blackberry, banana cream or as an ice cream topper (with chocolate sauce and chopped peanuts!). have fun :) !

This is over 50 years ago but we had a little hand mixer for making whipped cream. It was like a flat disk with holes in it that fit into the mixing bowl that came with it. You just turned it and got whipped cream.

Yes you can. Most stores carry the old fashioned double whip that you hand crank. It looks like an electric mixer without the electrical compartment. They are also great for whipping eggs and making meringue.

I don't think it's possible. You need to have the speed and vigor of the beaters. If you don't have beaters, then you can go and but the premade whipped cream. I know that's what lots of people do. Personally, I like homemade whipped cream the best. It tastes better...always. So, if you are like me, go out and buy a pair of beaters, they shouldn't be too expensive. If you find they are, just go to a second hand store and they will have tons of them for way cheap.

Oh, did you know that if you beat cream long enough it turns into butter? I made that mistake once... :)

Yes it takes some time and work. The plus side is that it won't turn to butter as easily as it does in a electric mixer. Since you'll be able to keep a good eye on it.

Yes, and you wont get tired arms if you put the heavy cream in a small enough bowl, and put the whisk handle between your hands, and go back and forth as though you were wiping your hands----real fast

Of course. It takes quite a bit of elbow grease and time though. Definitely buy a mixer when you can. Even handheld mixers (cheap ones at Wal-mart are under 20 bucks) will do the trick.

Yes, but it does take a while to do. Make it a family thing with everybody that is big enough taking their turn with a whisk. This way, nobody gets too tired. I hope this helps.

Of course, how do you think they did it before electric mixers? But doing it by hand takes a very long time!
