My dog has one too. The vet told me that the hernia he has is nothing to worry about, just fatty tissue and not intestines at all. He is over a year old when I rescued him and has not caused him trouble yet.
But your mileage may vary.
Go to the vet and get the problem assessed by a professional.
Sometimes hernias are very bad, sometimes they are nothing much and we would have no way of telling which your dog has...

A dog's hernia is usually not an emergency situation. You could wait and have it fixed when she is spayed. In the meantime, you do need to see if it grows or changes in shape. If it does she will have to have surgery right away. A vet may recommend surgery as a precaution...this is because a hernia can rupture.

Yes. It would probably be a good idea for your dog to have a hernia repair. A hernia is ruptured muscle. I am not sure whether this affects them in any way, but I'm sure it would be for the best.

What did the vet say to do? You obviously took the dog there to have it diagnosed. Did he/she just say "Yep it's a hernia, here's the bill , bye?"

Generally, yes. Take her to the vet and have it looked at. It might need to be operated on asap and it might not.
