Under the state of of Massachusetts - a woman with her parents permission can marry at 12. The fact that Mohammed may have married a 12 year old does not under Jurisdiction in the United States a pedophile http://www.law.cornell.edu/topics/Table_Marriage.htm

Update - you are right then - Mohammed would be a pedophile as others have posted the girl was only six at the time of marriage - but that would only be the case if he did not wait until she was older to consummate the marriage.

Mary was 12 and Joseph was much older forties or fifties. In those times puberty was considered the age at which marriage would be acceptable. This is a weak point at best, and one which could have been avoided with a little research. You are overlaying your culture and its views onto another, not realising that you are not acting objectively. Muhammad had many enemies when he married Aa'ishah yet not one spoke about their marriage as inappropriate. That should be enough for any reasonable person.
