How would you translate the concept of "carpooling" into Spanish?

I could describe it as "ir juntos en el mismo auto" but I wonder if there is a more concise term.

I would say there's no exact translation for carpooling in Spanish. But i would just simply use the verb compartir.
ie : Nosotros compartimos el carro para ir a trabajar.

Define "carpooling" as far as Mexicans know it. Every time I see a vehicle populated with Hispanics there are about 50 people in the back seat, 10 in the trunk, and 5 of 6 hanging on outside. This is typical transportation, not carpooling.

If I remember correctly, the word you're asking for is "mancomunar." It refers to a jont effort, as when you pool together resources (a car). You can say, "Vamos a mancomunar por auto" I haven't used this word in over 40 years! Thanks for making me shake the cobwebs and disrupt the settled dust in my head. : )
