Because the ACLU supports religious freedom, even when it involves those who disagree with evangelicals. And because evangelicals by nature are convinced they're right and everyone who is against them is wrong, they are convinced that the ACLU is their enemy.

It would be ironic in the extreme to see an evangelical group that was being denied its legitimate Constitutional rights and had to be supported by the ACLU.

The ACLU is highly successful at ridding our schools of religion. That is it in a nutshell. The ACLU sued to get rid of school prayer, and the evangelicals feel that was the straw that broke the camels back, and that all we have to do to fix all of our social ills to make kids recite a prayer to God everyday. In addition to that big one, the ACLU threatens to sue anytime a school a does anything to promote Christmas or anything else Christian based.

This is isn't limited to schools. Anytime a Nativity scene is erected in a government building they threaten to sue to get it removed.

It's not freedom OF religion, it's freedom FROM religion.

Well, it works both ways. The ACLU sees the Christian religion as something that oppresses peoples freedoms and they are all about freedom, of any kind. Now Christians on the other hand have certain moral limits that the Bible says they should not pass. The ACLU on the other hand doesn't mind going pass those limits and supports activitiys such as Homosexuality, abortion and such, which are in contradiction to Christians beliefs. Its bascially, they dont' like each other because their beliefs are tottally oppostie of each other!

The ACLU needs a philosophy besides sticking up for Americans. What is their philosophy. Would I have to read a big book about human morality and ethics?

the ACLU is often diamterically opposed to evangelicals. tbh, theres really not a whole lot of people that dont have issues with the ACLU. theyve really lost sight of what they were founded on.

The ACLU often defends people against religious oppression and stops book burnings, censorship, etc. Are you surprised that the evangelicals would resent that?

Because they hate America civil liberties. They want to have everyone obey their rules and act like they do. They are just as bad as the fundamentalist in the middle east they just want everyone to follow their religions rules.
