It really does all depend on you. I find that many people give their dogs unique names--often humanized ones nowadays. When I was a child, I had dogs like Buddy and Pal. However, since being an adult our dogs have all had human names. I had a friend when I was young who had a dog named 'Um'--the family had sat around the kitchen table trying to think of a name for their new pup and since they all said 'Um-m-m-m' more often, they decided that should be the name! When my son was a little gaffer he named his terrier-mix pup, Andy--we later found out that he thought that was the name of the dog on 'Lassie'--he ws having tonsil/hearing problems! We had a wonderful yellow Lab and it was my son's turn to give her a name (we all took turns each time a new pet came into the family). He named her Nike--as in the Greek goddess of victory--not the running shoe! Our next dog was Mona--variously means solitary or in Irish noble--a mixed breed but wonderful dog who had a variety of other names attached including Mona Lisa, Mona the Pest, Moyna my Goyl, etc. We now have a little soft-coated Wheaton Terrier--an Irish breed--and she has an Irish name--Aine (pronounced Awn-ye) which is the Irish form of Hannah which is from the Bible and means joy and happiness--and that she certainly is! It s up to you--just go with the flow.

I worked a vet clinic and one clients children wanted to name the dog, dog, but she just could not bring heself to do it so she named the dog Diouji, pronounced like the letter D O G. The kids loved the idea and we all thought it was unique way to give the kids what they wanted.

that depends on the dog. I had a mutt we called Tank because when she passed gas, it smelled like propane gas.
Does the dog have any unusual habits or idiosyncrasies? That may give you ideas.
