New York is a big state. Where in New York are you looking to live? Some areas are vastly more expensive than others.

Anywhere within a 100 mile radius of NYC is going to be EXPENSIVE. (Absurdly so.) Much beyond that, it's cheaper. You can buy a house for $100K in Western New York State, but that won't even get you a studio apartment in NYC.

Search me. Try finding roommates to split the costs. New York is expensive. I should know, I live there.
