say what? the Catholic Church doesn't "allow" anything of the sort.
There are a few people in every religion that have done bad things so why pick on the Catholics? It's true though that the media plays situations over and over and over to make it "sound" like there were many who have done pedophilia and then repeat it every time some other church does that, and repeat it for every time they have info reviewed in court, and then repeat it every time they have a slow news day, where in reality it wasn't many.
You need to know too that psychologists and psychiatrists there for the longest time were talking their patients into things. Instead of asking questions they were making suggestions to convince the children that something happened when it didn't.
Those shrinks were jailed...but, did you ever hear about those again and again on the media? heck no.
In addition, people like to jump on the bandwagon because police and detectives are trying to solve a case. We never hear about whether all those other charges stuck, just like we don't hear that the priest was found to be not guilty.
People think the Catholic church has deep pockets so they went after them for the money only. Sure not many arrests, in fact when people are not guilty they pay the fee and walk away. Seems you know the answer "a lot of lawsuits but not many arrests" but you still want to point a finger ....why is that?...you got something against the Catholic Church from your past?

The simple answer is that neither the Church or the US statutes allow for paidophilia (PS This is the correct spelling according to the original Greek!). The main problem lies within the history and administration of the Church as a whole.
Firstly, Catholicism is the single most powerful denomination in the US. The influence of the Church reaches far into business, politics, education, industry and the military. This influence was a source of much controversy up until recently, as the Church used this power to influence statutes, legal decisions and generally ensure that everything went their way.
Secondly, this influence meant few people dared to challenge such authority, and those cases that did were usually unsucessful- few people think that a priest can do any harm or wrongdoing, and so were unlikely to convict.
There is and was also a social blame- many of the abused children were not cared for by the State and so the responsibility fell to the childrens Church, where it was expected that they would be brought up correctly. Even where the children had families, there was a general belief that the Church could do no wrong- a form of brainwashing.
Many of the children were brainwashed themselves into thinking it was punishment for some unknown sin or wrongdoind, and their fear of sinning and rebelling against authority bought their silence.
There was also a general misconception that where a priest was found guilty of a crime, it would be dealt with by the Church. Again, as the Church gained more influence it needed to hold onto that power, and so many crimes went 'covered up' simply because of the damage it would do in terms of support if anything were to come out.
The image of a Catholic priest is also important. They are supposed to be dedicated to the Lord God, free from earthly temptations and vices, living a life of poverty to serve God and His people. This then places a massive burden upon someone to take the decision to become a priest. This psychological toll may be too great. I am NOT in support of their actions at all, but this toll does explain why some commit these terrible crimes. Similarly, the powerful position that they gain may mean it is a crime of opportunity, simply because they can.
As for lawsuits, there are many reasons why few cases are heard. The priests holy image means any case such as this is difficult to try, and the toll psychologically upon the jury and judges is immense.
Also, in many cases the incidents were long ago, and finding both evidence and witnesses can be difficult, especially seen as many Church records and paperwork are bound by ecclesiastical law to never be revealed. Any evidence that is collected is easily contested on the grounds of quality of recollection, and age.
Shame against rebelling against the Church can also be a factor, as people don't want to challenge big organisations.
So few cases will ever be tried.

I understand what you are saying, but what can be done? We can't have something like the Salem witch trials, stringing up every priest we see. There are good priests out there.
Pedophilia is so horrible, there isn't a word disgusting tnough to describe it. Once an accusation is made, it should be addressed by the police, then the courts. and....
We have to educate our children, we have to teach them that no matter who a person is--they must never be touched or even addressed in a way that makes them uncomfortable.
There are millions of catholic churches, and while you hear about these cases - I don't think it is rampant----although admittedly any pedohilia is too much.

The fact became made by ability of a single cardinal, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. he's quoted interior the national Press: "The Vatican’s 2d-in-command says the pedophilia scandal rocking the Roman Catholic Church may be blamed in particular on homosexuals interior the priesthood, feedback that have outraged gay rights communities and rekindled grievance over the Church’s historical past with homosexuality. “Many psychologists, many psychiatrists have confirmed there exists no courting between celibacy and pedophilia,” Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican secretary of state, reported in Santiago on Monday. “yet many others have confirmed, and function informed me those days, that there is a link between homosexuality and pedophilia. it is genuine, it is the challenge.” the item additionally cites a lay Catholic group. The USA is not in charge of the Catholic Church. Cases that are brought before US courts are handled as any other cases would be handled; according to the law. There's not much that can be done when the statute of limitations has been exceeded.
Parents, you want to keep your children safe from predatory priests? Then stop making them attend a church that has a proven history of protecting child-molesting priests. Just because the Catholic church is old doesn't mean it's the only way to Heaven.

The pedophilia inside the Catholic Church is no more rampant than it is in any other organization. Protestant Churches and Public Schools have the same problem in the same degree that the Catholic Church did. Pedophiles flock to jobs where they can interact with children, that's a fact. Men do not become pedophiles through celebacy, that is also a fact.

A better question is 'Why does the U.S.A. allow rampant pedophilia to go on with little or no punishment at all?'. Pedophilia is not exclusive to the Catholic church. For all of the registered pedophiles that live around us (yes, around you too) I wonder how many there are who are not registered or that haven't been caught yet. That is a terrifying thought, is it not? But it's true.

The USA did not then, nor now condone the sick twisted internal business of the Catholic Church.
The Church convinced parents and children to not report such issues when they actually happened (for the good of the church) and being "good" Catholics they believed that it was handled within the church and did not alert outside authorities.
We have laws in this country that can work against children whose parents decide wrongly. The parents did not report this abuse when it happened and by the time the children are old enough and wise enough to report it, the statue of limitations has come into effect, making the authorities powerless to actually punish those who should have been punished.

It isn't the US that allows it. It is the Catholic church.
To see the reason why the church allows it, just look at Kim's comment: "God will be their judge"
The clearly implied ending is "so we should just ignore the problem and leave it to God."
That is the philosophy the Catholic church uses and it is dead wrong. Ignoring the problem and leaving it to God only allows it to continue and get worse. The pedophiles in the church should have been immediately exposed to public prosecution instead of concealed and protected by the church for decades.

And as for the ten commandments
They need one more at least
Thou shall never cover up
The acts of pervert priests
How'd they let that happen
Unless they just abhor us
Well anyway it adds
Another layer to the chorus
