you need to get into a church who can teach your scripture first:
It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way prov.19:2
We have some of that here on this forum.
if you do not know the word of God, you cannot know love, and this is how you should preach the gospel, not in a forcefull way, the Men who preached the gospel in the days when the bible was being written we with Christ day in and day out for about three years. that is a pretty good amount of time to get a good understanding. if you want to be effective for God put some effort into discovering who he is and how greatly he loves. that way your zeal for God can have a profound impact!

You know, evangelism is just preaching the Word of God, with an eye to the salvation of other people's souls. And, truthfully, if the choice is not made freely and with information, you didn't save them at all. God is not into coercion.
What you would do best is to study the Bible, with or without help, though company is good in this pursuit, with a particular eye toward apologetics--the reasoned defense of the Faith. Unless you are a firm and informed believer, evengelism is not going to be successful for you, take that as a given. You can't effectively share facts you don't truly understand. But I would recommend that you avoid learning at the knee of any liberalistic college bozo, they don't actually practice Chrisitianity, most of them, but a neutered facsimile.
Best suggestion, if you think this is your calling, pray about it, and then go where God sends you.

There are many references to evangelizing in the Bible, here are a couple. In Romans 10:13-18, we are commanded to preach the Gospel to all the world, for "...how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?" and "...Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." In John 17:18 Jesus prays to the Father "As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world."
Attending a Church on a regular basis is necessary for salvation. Does God want us to attend Church and fellowship with other believers? Yes.
We as believers do not do the converting, God does. You can not argue anyone into heaven. All we are suppose to do is bring forth the Gospel and part of that is telling others about Judgment day. and the terrible wrath of God they will face without a Savior. That Savior is Jesus Christ.
There is a web site that teaches the Bible you can go to http://worldwide.familyradio.org/zusa/english/ On this site you can listen to audio and video of the Gospel being teached. You can also ask questions
This site also has "Does God Love You?" tracts you could order and hand out. They're free.

"For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" (Romans 10:12-15, NIV)
Telling people is not the same thing as "forcing them." All you need to do is tell. They can listen or not listen, respond or not respond. I actually look more for people who are receptive to begin with since although Jesus offered salvation to everyone, he spent the most time and energy on those who showed an interest.
Look at this passage where Jesus is talking to his disciples:
"If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. (Matthew 10:14, NIV) Jesus didn't tell them to beat it into them or to force them to convert. Instead, he told his disciples to move on.
In answer to the other part of your question--about getting involved--start by seeing if there are any Christian clubs or groups that meet on campus or nearby. For example, you can look for Campus Crusade for Christ or Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. (You should be able to find locations for these on-line as well.) Attend a group and get to know some of the people there. Then find out where they go to church and what they like or don't about where they go. When you find someone that seems like-minded, try that person's church.

One cannot become born again by force. The bible tells us, it is the goodness of God that brings us to repentance. Also, no one comes to God, but that the spirit draws them. As a Christian, I think it's important to be well versed in scripture, know about salvation, why we need salvation, and that Jesus is the only way to salvation. That being said, I think we also need to be sensitive and not go around telling people they are going to hell if they don't believe in Jesus. Not a humble approach.
If you live your life according to God's word, people will ask about you because you will be different. Then you can tell them how Jesus has made your life peaceful, joyful, etc. That is what we are to do; to show them His love. Only God can "convert" a heart.

Your university should have a branch of Campus Crusade or Scripture Union attached. If not, you could look up the local chapter of the Gideons and ask them (it's a Christian businessmen's association.)
And no, you don't have to "force" your beliefs on anyone (you can't anyway.) But if you're a Christian and really believe it, you can understand that you have a positive message for people. Work from the viewpoint of *offering* the Good News, not forcefeeding it.
It can be good to go to a local church to make friends and have support in prayer etc., but you don't have to sign up for it. Your Scripture Union could help there, recommending some that have active youth programmes (excursions, activities, etc.).

It's not right to try and convert people in any way. Evangelism was designed to teach and preach the love of God, not damnation. It takes a lot of knowledge of Gods word to be ready to face what's out in the world. There is a lot of evil out there ready to attack you. I recommend at least 2 years of extensive bible study before ever trying it. I am a minister in an association the takes the word of God to bikers but I've been in Gods word for just over 25 years.
I'm not try ing to discourage you, just some words of wisdom.
Bible study, ministerial application classes. God bless.

yes thats it, God said to goevangelize to the ones that dont know him. you dont have to be in a church to spead the gospel, if you know the word of God and be lead by the holy spirit, then you go and minister to people, you could start at the university. thats all you need. its not your job to change/ convert people, you are only supposed to tell them about God.

my suggestion to you is to go to www.livingwaters.com, its all about evangelism there. But think about this though, if we are to "love our neighbor as ourselves", would you want to go to hell?? If no then, why would you not share the gospel with your neighbors so they won't go to hell either?
Romans 10:14 & 15 "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not keard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, HOw beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"

I would love to learn to evangelise too. I feel that we must spread the word. I think that God uses you when necessary I find that it is when you least expect it. We must not be ashamed to declare the Gospel or deny Jesus or He will deny us!
