How many of you think that Pope Benedict probably should self-criticise Christianity's violent past before commenting on the other faith.

===============================
If some people think that Christianity's past is very peaceful, then you need to read my previous quesiton ?

Ignorance is bliss!
The Pope was not criticising anyone - he was quoting a medieval source and was taken out of context.
The Catholic Church long abandoned the idea of forcing people to convert to Christianity because it doesn't work. While we are on the subject of a violent past - I'm an English Catholic and Catholics in my country were persecuted and put to death by Protestants just as they were in Ireland - so take the log out of your own eye first.
Anti-Catholic properganda lies about Catholic teaching and practice. For example. Catholics have never been forbidden from reading the bible, we do not worship Mary and its those who say otherwise who are twisting the truth. The same applies to many other claims made about Catholicism - revealing the extent of prejudice among some (but not all) Protestants.

It's rather interesting that Moslems are proving through their reaction, that the quote originally referred to by the Pope is correct.

I think that you generalise more than anyone else I've ever had the misfortune to come across! The previous question was uter nonsense. If Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, or any other terrorist had the opportunities and firepower that America has, they would not have hesitated to kill as many non-muslims as possible. It's fortunate that these murderers have not had more opportunities. It sounds to me like you're a terrorist in the making. Only by renouncing your sin, and asking Jesus to forgive you will you ever enter Heaven. We as Christians are not responsible for one another's conduct, but our own, and certainly aren't answerable to you. Whilst I don't agree with the war in Iraq, the bible says that certain things will come to pass. The crusades were about protecting Christian lands from the marauding muslims. The world wars were about responding to a threat, and defending our lands against Hitler. (Who, before you get your tar brush out, was NOT a Christian, but a Social Darwinist). The terrorists in the east are hellbent on turning this war on terror into a war on Islam, which it's not, but it's the only way they're going to recruit. I don't hate muslims, nor does the West, but when terrorists bomb our people in the name of their God, unlike our responses, it gives that God a bad name. Wake up and smell the coffee, before you turn into another suicide bomber! It sounds to me like you're pretty brainwashed!

Christianity does not proclaim to be 100% peaceful.

Pope John Paul II & Joseph Ratzinger (currently Pope Benedict XVI) worked together for decades. Pope John Paul II confessed the sins of Christianity (over 101 apologies) and worked to repair relationships. He used the knowledge and expertise of his Cardinal Ratzinger.

Irony of your question is that historically yes, Christians have been violent ... historically, Muslims have been violent. However, it's like a battle cry for the Muslims to hear the truth that they were violent.

Do you see Christians taking up arms living in full denial about the past? NO. Rather, you see us telling you that violence solves little, and usually is the works of the evil one. At least we can objectively study history, to learn from the mistakes. Muslims, contrary, live in full denial for it suits their purpose of perpetrating violence.

It's unclear if the Pope was actually commenting or not. He was reading from an ancient text. It is the rest of the world that is commenting.

Christianity has a violent past, be it Catholic or non-Catholic, but Christianity also also learning from the past and solving problems.

The Catholic Church has officially covered all of these issues in the past....most in the recent past. Christianity is not the one that is now currently blowing people up or killing their own in their own cities at the rate of 50 to 100 per day.

Watch current events on CNN to see where we as the human race are today.

About that, you should begin with the islam VERY violent past. They conquered North Africa, Spain , and invaded France by military force. They were stopped by Charles Martell in 732.
Spain suffered 7 centuries of domination before they could throw them out.
After that, the Turks tried again in the XV century. They were stopped by Poland ( Pan Sobieski ) in the XVII century.
Nowadays, it is the islam again, that is violent

the major difference here is violent PAST.

The muslim islam world not only has a violent past, but they are still violent to this day. They simply wll not give up on violence as a way of life. And for those who state that they are muslim/islam and are not violent, I state to you that you send money to finance the violent ones, that makes you a party to and supporter of the continued violence.

It could not continue on the scale that it is without financial support from the so called peaceful muslim/islam communities.

Both the catholic and muslim religions are false religions that have horribly twisted the true meaning of the Scriptures throughout history in many ways. May be we should consider forming a new religion with a better understanding of the Bible to replace the false religions of the world.
