most people call pink a color. i believe pink is a tint. not a color. it doesnt get reflected from prisms or the light spectrum. it dosnt appear on rainbows. and u cant make it using primary colors. that last statement proves it should never be referred to as a "COLOR".

Pink is a value of red since it is a degree of the color red with white added to it.

Just because something is not found in the visible spectrum of light doesn't mean it's not a color. It IS a color... just not one of the colors of the spectrum.

A color that is made from mixing primary colors is called a "secondary" color...but there are still lots of colors besides just primary and secondary ones.

But yes, pink is a tint of red since you get it by adding white to red.

As a shade of light? I agree, ROYGBIV is all you get. Oh, I guess ultra violet and infra red are colors too. Just not ones we see... But bees see ultra violet right? So thats a color...

Hmm, but what about pigments... are there any naturally occuring pink pigments? Are they used for cosmetics such as blush? Yes, and yes it is pink.

If I mix some paint to do a portrait with, yes pink is a tint. I know because I used white to tint purple or red lighter.

But in nature there are many items which are naturally quite pink (flowers) which are not tinted that way.

Pink is a color often made by mixing red and white. This is sometimes described as being a light red, but it is more accurately a bright undersaturated red. Pink can also be used to describe other colors, including some more closely related to magenta than red, such as fuchsia and hot pink. There are many different shades of pink.

The use of the word "Pink" for colour first occurred in the 17th century to describe the light red flowers of pinks, flowering plants in the genus Dianthus, possibly named from the "pinked" edges of their petals appearing to have been cut with pinking shears.

Yes and no.

In ordinary language it is okay to speak of pink as a "color." As in, what color is her shirt? It's pink.

But you are exactly right that pink is a tint of red. A color with white added becomes a tint. With black added it becomes a shade.

I think tuffgalkc's and Crystal Violet's answers are right on and, only to an extent, so are you. You have a right to stand your ground, but for all intents and purposes, away from studio or scientific bretheren; when discussing curtains with mom or using crayons with a little cousin, etc; it's just plain ostentatious. Shouldn't split hairs about it-- we all know the thumb is not a finger but I really don't plan on schooling somebody when they say "ow! I cut my finger!" (PS I definitely pay for pink as an extra color at the printers)

There are three colors: Red Blue Yellow. In art Black is a combination of all colors, in nature white is a combination of all colors. In art White is the absence of color in nature white is a combination of all colors.

Any other color is either a shade or tint.

Pink is a tint because when u add white to red, u end up with a tint. it's kind of like a window. most people add black colour to make it dark, but then there is the person who adds white to make it a light tint. Pink is not a colour but a tint. who knows, a person could have a pink car, get a red tint, then have white added to get a pink tint to the windows. personaly, that's pretty stupid but you never know. i agree with you 100%.

Make your guy or woman!!! merely get some vasline and in spite of the undeniable fact that it right into a splash field. Then take a dwindled purple blush or lipstick and positioned a splash into the vasline and combine. Now you have your guy or woman tinted lip balm!!! Thats what i did and it seems quite high quality.
