The utensils used in these types of restaurants tend to make loud noises. i.e. woks, etc. The utensils used in these restaurants typically make very high-pitched, clanging noises, which is very irritable to a dog, as their sense of hearing is very sensitive to this pitch (i.e.-dog-whistle).

To fhe first post, people in china do eat dogs but not in america as there are laws against that.

to the second post, yea, maybe the way the restaurant smells but saying that some cultures eat dogs doesnt mean the restaurant is making a dish out of it.

My post; im pretty sure the dog doesnt know about the urban legend that they make a delicious american chinese restaurant dish. There are other otions like the smell.

On another note; I dont understand why people look down on some cultures for eating cats or dogs. Americans have an obsession with cows, yet people in india would never think of eating a cow. Restrain yourself from using your own culture as a measuring tape for all others.

It might just be an irratating smell to the dog. Like flowers or perfumes can be to people- allergy type stuff.

I work with a girl from India and she always smells like the food she eats. It's not a bad smell, but it can be overpowering and animals have hightened senses compared to ours.

dogs r really good at picking up on people and things. good judge of character etc... so maybe it is something or someone there. It might sense something is up. does it happen when you see your friend in another place away from the chinese.

Many dogs act this way in a strange environment, no big deal. You may consider that maybe one of your friends have been abusive to dog and it is your friend he is afraid of.

It may be that your friends have some smell about them which your dog does not like. Your friends may also not be to keen on dogs which your dog would sense. Try meeting your friends elsewhere and see whether the dog's behaviour changes

Some dogs just don't like some places/people. It could be the noise in the place or he might be able to sense something.

If you are taking your dog into a restaurant and it's acting strange it's because the dog is smarter than it's master and knows it doesn't belong in a restaurant.
