After several tests, I DO NOT find the range of 5.8 Ghz. cordless phones any better than 2.4 Ghz. Side by side tests, up to a block away, the 2.4 still outdid the digital spread spectrum 5.8!!! They all run low power, and higher frequencies tend to have less range, (known by many in the electronics biz) with the same power. Very tricky advertising by many manufacturers, who still use 2.4 Ghz. for receive, even though it says it is a 5.8 Ghz. phone!! 2.4 for receive on the base, 5.8 for transmit. Go figure. My 2.4 has no interference problems with Cable, computers, or microwave. Similar to slightly better range..

5.8 supposedly offers a wider range of reception than a 2.4.
The best model I found recently is a Panasonic, with the following features:
Color display
Downloadable ringtones and pictures
Talking Caller ID
Sync-able gigaset (one phone jack, multiple hand sets. You change something on one, you change it on all (erase from CID, add to address book, etc.)).
Answering maching that plays through the handset

Dear Meche,
Many people like to use the higer ghz because it has more range and is less likely to interfere with wireless computer networks, which often operate at 2.4 ghz.
Panasonic makes very good wireless phones - I have a 2.4ghz , the KX-TG5439 is the number on the base, and I find it is quite good.
