One time when I had to face this problem I had a conversation w/my vet. It made alot of sense to me. Examin with your heart his QUALITY of life. Cosider what you might wish if it were you. Even tho' I'm a madwoman about all living creatures, euthenasia is a good tool for many reasons. We are completely responsible for our dear ones. They depend on us TOTALLY. That means making responsible decisions about what is best for them out of love.

Hi!
I know it's hard to accept that our pets get old and eventually have to die. No matter how old you are, this is really hard to take.
You have to remember one thing though, if you have love (and I can tell you do) and respect for your dog, you owe it to him to let him go.
If you want to help him get some food down, you can give him baby food with a seringe (your vet can give you one or maybe at the pharmacy or a hospital nearby, just tell them you need it to feed your dog), make sure the food is liquid (add a little water to the mixture) and gently feed him that way. Make sure that you do not push the seringe too far into his mouth and let him swalow at his own pace. If he refuses food, do not force him. Make water available for him at all times. And give him lots of love.
The best thing for you is to get used to the fact that your dog had a fun filled life with you. Together you have built lots and lots of good memories you will remember him by. If you love him, let him go to a place where there is no more sickness and no more pain. You owe him that much for all the love he has given you.
I know it's hard, I had to do it four years ago and I still miss my dog very much!
May you find peace in the fond memories that will keep him near you for all times.

Everyone is right about taking him to the vet and getting recommendations there.
But maybe, and trust me, I understand why you want to keep your dog with you... but maybe, in your dog's heart, he's ready to go. He's elderly and in pain, and has some very serious health conditions. Think very hard about whether letting him go might be the kindest and most loving thing you could do for him right now. I know that's not an answer you want to hear, and I don't blame you. I hesitated to even post this.
Talk to your vet, though, and see what they say.
I'm sorry, I know this is a very rough time for you.

The intestinal worms are treatable by the vet so is some dental work. The heartworm treatment is very harsh -- depending on how bad it is the dog might not survive it.
Please do not let your dog go on in this condition. He is not eating because he has lost the desire to live. Pets will actually "hang on" for a long time and through much suffering because they do not want to make their owners sad.
You must honor his life and your love for him by giving him the "peaceful death" which is his right.

First let me say that I'm so sorry that your dog is so sick
Second, only you can answer this question. Ask yourself these questions:
Is your dog enjoying life? Does he still like to play? Is he losing control of his bodily functions? Is he in pain or uncomfortable?
Are you keeping him alive for yourself or for him?
If your dog is suffering with no hope for recovery, the most humane attitude is to end his pain by letting him go.
Again I know it's not an easy decision , and it's something that only you can answer. Sometimes the best thing that we do is to let go.

Your dog is in a very terrible position. He is old, take him to the veterinarian before it's too late, and spend as much time with him as you can. If you can't afford it, go to the Animal Hospital, talk to a veterinarian and buy the necessary treatments for your dog. The last thing after that is to go to a pet store, or on-line and buy the medicines for your dog, and treat him till he gets better, Good luck!

take your dog to the vet and either have him treated or euthanized before he starves to death. Keeping him alive if he is suffering is selfish. The kindest thing you can do(if the vet can't help him) is the have him euthanized. It's a hard decision to make, but that would be your final, unselfish act for your best friend of 14 years.

It sounds like your dog has serious health issues. I hope you have taken him to a veterinarian recently. You can get a science diet food called Mix-It that my dog loved when he was sick.

If he wont eat, take him to a vet, and they will feed your dog through a ube. It will probably be the only way to feed him. Either that or ...... force feed him.
