Why would any thing negative or bad or intolerent said about the islamic faith should not be considered an insult, but a form of freedom of speech, while any negative comment against jewish people is a form of anti semitic behaviour? Why would calling the prophet of islam a pig or an evil person and calling muslims sub human and making drawings about that in magazines and announcements about such things made by important and well respected religious figures like the pop is to be considered normal and an example of freedom and deservant of no reaction from the muslims, while a comment made by an actor(e.g. gibson) while drunk about the jews is considered an example of hatered and anti semitism and unacceptable behaviour?
Why isnist, for several hundereds of years that the jews are the source of all evil, the killers of the christ , and now the same hate is directed to muslims .
If christians are the more civilized, more mature and less violent, why then all this intolerence???

I didn't think the Pope was in the habit of making any sort of disparaging comments about anyone.
How can it be that the Pope recalls HISTORICAL FACT and this is construed as "comments against Islam?" This is dangerously uncritical: any culture MUST come to grips with its history, violent or otherwise. Any culture which is silent about the slaughter of innocents but uprises when critical words are said is one that needs to reconsider its presuppositions and outlooks.

I get it who the most powerful Catholic Mel Gibson, or pope Benedict? I think there trying to pass the blame of the world problem to the other main religions. We all no Catholic have cause allot more problem, but I think there problems come when others begin to fight back, so I guess there right. If it weren't for the Muslims, and Jews fighting back then maybe there wouldn't be as many wars, and as for the comment in full the the Pope said, about Mohamed not bringing nothing into the belief that wasn't already there, I ask what did Christan bring, other then allowing any one to enter a holy place, the Jews had every thing else down pack , it was already fillowing the golden rule, so what was the need of Christianity, they could have just started a new sect of Judaism, that's what I think Jesus was aiming for in the first place.

The comment made by the pope was not an insult, He did not call them anything derogatory, he simply stated their history and the current state of affairs have not changed at all. Violent then, violent now, and he was hoping that they would see this as their history and work to change the future.

If he had called them names instead of quoting the truth, you would have a point.

Now, biblically the Jews did not Kill Jesus. Jesus sacrifised himself for all of us, even the Muslims.

The only cartoon that I heard about was the one with a bomb on top of the turbon of the false prophet Mohammad, this was also a true cartoon and was not derogatory.

Because Mohammad married and raped a nine year old baby girl we can also call him a pedifile and not be derogatory because it is fact that he did this. He also killed the entire village of a 17 year old girl and allowed her to live because he wanted her as one of his wives.

Did Mohammad have a heart for God, despite his lack of physical and sexual control? The facts of history do not back this up, his history is violent and controlling at all costs to humans who may get in his way. Was Mohammad duped into believing he was somehow a prophet? That one I can say I believe to be true.

Stop the violence. Read your history and then change your future. If you cannot show your religion to be peaceful, then it really isnt a religion at all, just a bunch of peaceful individuals sending money to finance the violent ones and then publically stating that most of you are peaceful. There is nothing peaceful about financing the violent ones.

Exactly!!!!! You understand me. This is because Jews have always tried to shut Muslims up. It goes way back in history. They never get along well. Jews tortured your prophet for God's sake. When are you guys going to keep covering for them. It's all media. Jews are taking over everything and are trying in everyway to wipe Muslims out. Muslims never want any terror. I don't blame some of you people for not knowing anythinjg about Islam and believing everything you hear. The media forces that upon you but if you research and look deep into Islam, you'll see that we are a peaceful religion that never wants to hurt others. The Prophet always taught Muslims what is right and to never disrespect others. I'm sure you Christians would never allow anyone to insult Jesus because you wouldn't throw your religion away. It's not a crime to defend your religion. Please open your eyes.

The Pope was reading from ancient manuscripts, where even in the days of old it was clearly understood that Mohammad was evil and the teachings of Islam were corrupt. Face it. Any "prophet of God" who says its OK to murder innocent women and children because they dont think the way you do is an agent of Satan. Any religion whose goals include destruction of the world is false. Jesus Christ, in passive submission to death for the salvation of mankind, who taught us to love and embrace those against us, demonstrates a God of love and mercy. The God of Islam is a God of intolerence and destruction, and Mohammad as its prophet is the antiChrist. See you at Armegeddon.

The pope said that violence to promote religion is evil and that Islam has a tendency to resort to violence to promote itself.

I don't see how anyone can reasonably disagree with the pope about the use of violence to promote religion. Violence to promote religion IS evil.

As for whether or not Islam has a tendency to use it to that end, I think the recent firebombing of churches to protest the pope's comments just proves that the pope was right.

After listening to his speech I dont see where he said anything derogatory against Muslims. He said that murdering people in the name of religion is wrong. I'm sure that, unless youre a radical muslim, you'd have to agree

"He said, I quote, 'Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached'."

Or slight change

"He said, I quote, 'Show me just what the Pope brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached'."

Do you think catholics would be angry?
