I am considering getting a roommate, but I was concerned about how to fairly divide the cost of toilet paper.

How can I politely ask possible roommates how many squares of bathroom tissue they use so that I can calculate how much each of us should pay for this item? I know how many I use; so, I just need to find out how much he or she uses.

well one you could just ask they straight up when you interview them. Or you can tell them that everyone in the house buys their own role of toilet paper, i think that would be simpler then counting or calculating tissue squares. Oh and i was going to tell you that if you want a lasting roommate you need to warn them of all the problems that may occur because you don't want them running out because they got scared or something, and then who's going to help pay.

So i suggest you tell them about that pesky carpet of yours and warn them about the neighbor girl and maybe don't say anything about the furby because well you may never get a roommate. Oh and you may want a roommate who doesn't like jello as much as you because one day when you come home, all the jello just might be gone so be careful with that.

oh and my apologises for scaring you about the neighbor girl and the furby but i figured someone should warn you about them. You may have gotten scared after i told you but now you are more alert to what may happen so I'm sure you have already prepared traps or something just in case something happens, well hopefully nothing happens. Well good luck on your hunt for a good roommate! : )

How about you buy a pack this time and he/she buys the next pack? Is it really necessary to get down to calculating the per square cost of toilet paper? Next you are going to be measuring the amount of water used per shower and how often each person flushes. If you want to get that crazy, then you need to calculate the electrical load of your personal electronic devices to determine the proper percentage of the electric bill that each person pays. If he downloads more porn than you then he should pay more for the internet connection as well. It is never ending. Just split the bill evenly and get over it. If you can't handle this, then get a place of your own.

Men use less toilet paper. Women use more.

How about buying your own and keep it locked up. Tear out the required amount for use when needed. This way there's no chance of any quarrels about who use more or less. This is not a joke. The company I was in had this system.

You know, this is going to be the least of your worries. Some stuff you just have to solve once it becomes a problem, not before you know whether or not it even will be a problem.

If it DOES become a problem- like one of you insists on an expensive brand and the other doesn't care, you could just decide to buy your own stuff. Treat it like groceries. He who drinks all the soda, for instance, buys more.

I can tell you are joking so there is no real problem but if there were, its simple, each buy your own and have 2 holders ( you can buy standing holders ). Sometimes there IS a huge difference in the amount of paper individuals use and TP is very expensive.

Put a lock on the toilet paper roll and each sheet costs a quarter.

dude, how many squares of bathroom tissue?

what does tp cost? like $10 for 2 month supply. it is completely stupid to try and calculate how many squares of tp you use. there are MANY bigger and more important things to worry about

There is no polite way to ask something like that. How about this.. you buy it the first time, your roomie buy it the next time, then you buy it after that and vice versa.

what a dumb question, but here's the answer. buy your own supplies, label things, and agree up front who pays for what. as long as you make clear what the rules are shouldn't have any problems
