in the light of international tension, over terrorism, why in heavens name did the pope incite anger from the muslims with his quote made by a 14th century Byzantine emperor, fair enough he has apologised, but come on, he's supposed to be the earthly father of the christian church, what hope of peace in the world, when such a man, puts his mouth in motion, without engaging brain first.....

He lost it long ago because he is a close-minded person and does not know what this may strike in the Muslim world. He really embarrased Christianity by insulting Muslims. Now, more and more Muslims probably believe that they are hated all over the world. No one knows how Muslims truly are. Anyone of you people can go look for a Muslim friend or if you're already among Muslims, see how they are and come say they are terrorists..but you won't because we are not...

Can't people accept that like us, the Pope is also just a human being? Ok, so he made a slight error, but look at all the other leaders of the world, how many times have they put their foot in it? A good example would be President Bush.
All are entitled to at least one mistake. At least he is not being continually pulled up on mistakes magnified by the media.

The Pope may have been less than tactful but the Muslims who take offence are a pain in the **** whinging all the time over nothing, no wonder many people are now growing tired of Muslim's pointless, counterproductive and childish rants every time someone expresses a belief different from theirs.

Before I go to Catholic Church, a few things need to be adjusted permanently:

The Holy Trinity is acutally one God:

The Father, Son and Holy Spirit is like the soul, the body, and the works in a single person.

That God is a marriage of Good and Truth.

You don't pray to dead people.

Then maybe I will grace the entrance of an RCC church - maybe.

i believe that the aim of the pontif was not to anger muslims, but send a clear message to the catholic community. he clearly isn't concerned about what muslims think.
there are now 1.1 billion catholics out there who believe mulsims are evil. wow! do you have any idea what this means. there is no way that a man responsible for that many people would make and innocent mistake like that... sounds a bit like bush's 'opps! we made a mistake, iraq doesn't have any WMDs after all'

It seems foot in mouth disease is running rampant throughout politicians and world leaders of late. It seems rather unlikely that the pope would actually incite hatred of Muslims - though of course not impossible, more likely he just said 'unwise' things.

I think he chose a bad example to use in his speech. This may well haunt him. I have just read the main parts of the speech and it seems the quotes he used were good examples of what he wanted to put across, but he really should have found another example considering the current climate!!!

Both the catholic and muslim religions are false religions that have horribly twisted the true meaning of the Scriptures throughout history in many ways. May be we should consider forming a new religion with a better understanding of the Bible to replace the false religions of the world. Have you actually read what the Pope said?

Here is a link to the English translation of the Pope's controversial speech: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2006/september/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20060912_university-regensburg_en.html
