You won't get a flat panel of decent quality for that sort of money so I would recommend that you look at Sony CRTs ("normal" tvs).

Sony and Panasonic have both dropped their prices of the "normal" televisions to under £500 for a 32"....you'll have a hard time finding a flat panel for less than £2000 that could even rival one of these normal tvs, so if you are happy with the size then definitely go for them.

Try to find a store to compare both makes next to each other - I'd imagine Sony would probably be the one for you though.

HP intros 30-inch widescreen as computer manufacturers go big screen crazy
Perhaps in competition to Apple's 30-inch Cinema HD display, HP have announced a November release of the LP 3065, a widescreen 30-inch with black surround. It's a fairly serious piece of kit that might be more at home in a design studio than for displaying Excel spreadsheets (then again, spreadsheets do get big, don't they?)

It boasts 1000:1 contrast ratio, up to 2560x1600 resolution, and 92% colour gamut. It's viewable from 178 degrees in all directions. It can even be wall-mounted, which opens up more possibilities for using it as a high-definition TV with a media centre PC.
