You can easily move your little one into a toddler bed anytime now. They are pretty low to the floor and unless he has toys all over his floor he shouldn't get hurt if he slips out. I also bought a baby gate to put in front of his door so in case he did wake up and started to cry I would hear him. (I opened his bedroom door after he fell asleep. I'm also a light sleeper so that worked to my advantage.) I also thought I saw Crib netting to help prevent kids from climbing out of their cribs. But I'm unsure where you can find it. Hope this helps! God Bless!

When my son began to climb on everything in sight, I simply converted his crib to a toddler bed. I put pillows on the floor in front of his bed because he is a wild sleeper and I wasn't sure if the safety rails would contain him. SUre enough he fell out of the bed 2 nights in a row. He's been sleeping in his converted crib for over 5 months now. He hasn't fallen out since the 2nd night and he doesn't have the safety rails on.
I chose to make the conversion because I didn't want to risk something happening to him at night that would prevent him from calling out to me if he needed my help. For my own peace of mind, I would much rather have him fall the shorter distance from a toddler bed to the floor, than to have him fall from the top rail of a crib. Plus with the crib rail, he could get caught on so many things and end up hurting more than his backside from hitting the floor.

My middle son wouldnt sleep through the night when he was about a year, so we moved him from a crib to a toddler bed thinking that he kept waking up because he rolled around and it the bars. The night we moved him, he slept through the night and soon after went into a regular full size bed. Then just last month my youngest turned 1 and he also didnt sleep through the night. We moved him directly to a full size bed and since then, not up at all!

He needs a bed now. It's just a matter of days before he can climb out of his crib and I agree that he might get hurt. Go shopping for an expandable toddler bed today.

Wait until the day he can cral out of his crib. I have a 4 year old and when his little brother was born is when he came out of his crib. He was 2 1/2. I have a 16 month old and thought it would be cool to get the two boys a bed and have them in the same room together. So not cool...my 16 month old likes to wander so he is now sleeping in mine and my husbands room in the pack and play. BIG MISTAKE. I should have left the crib up until he could crawl out. That's my advice to you.

right now would be a good time or wait til he is at least 2yrs. by then he should be definitely be ready for a bed. when you buy a bed make sure he doesn't roll a lot when he sleeps if he does make sure u get a bed with the protective bar on the side so he doesn't roll out, use that until he is used to being in a bed..sometime you can find the type with the protective covers on the bars so he doesn't get hurt if he does roll onto it.

I just got my 23 month old son a toddler bed, and he LOVES it.
I think you should definitely go for it. He just slept his first night in it, to this day he has not even attempted to get out when I put him to bed, he gave up the bottles, and he doesn't wake up in the middle of the night, all because of the bed. I believe it makes him feel like a big boy, so he acts like one. He even goes for a nap when he's tired on his own. He loved it so much that he sits on it and plays with his toys during the day. I would definitely go for it if I were you.

Now would be a great time to move him or her. If separation is a problem pull the toddler bed into your room for the time being.

Well, call me "Over-protective" but I always had one eye, and one ear open, when my kids were babies, and could hear them get up to use the bathroom & anything at night.. And I always checked to see who it was, and or, what they were up for.. And when my kids were all babies, I always bought a crib, for them, but none of them ever slept in them, except during the day-time naps.. At night, I always felt much safer having them in bed with me & my husband.. And with nursing all of them, it was much easier to do with them in bed with us!! As far as Toddler beds go.. I only bought one, for my youngest daughter, and she wanted to sleep with us, instead,,.. and we just kept putting her in it, over & over, again, until she got tired of fighting us on this issue, and gave in.. she cried alot, until she'd cry herself to sleep in her "Big-girl" bed, we called it, to her... She was 2 years old..Your son, is at just the right age.. and some of the new toddler beds come with guard rails, now.. So, that might make you feel a little more comfortable about the whole thing.. Plus, there already so low, to the ground that even if he fell out of bed, he wouldn't hurt himself, to bad.. It would scare him more, than anything, I would think....... Good-Luck to you & your family.. I miss my kids at that age! They grow-up so fast, too fast, for me!! Smile!!
