If you only want to care of babies then you will want to work in either NICU, SCN or Pediatrics. SEE Below...
If the baby has difficulties it sill go to the Neonatal Intensive Care and the NICU nurse will care for it.
If the mother has a C-section the Transition Nursery will get the baby and the NICU who is assigned to that area will care for the baby until either the mother is out of the recovery room after surgery or until the baby is deemed stable to go to the Special Care Nursery where the SCN nurse will care for it.
If the mother has a normal vaginal delivery first the Obstetrical Nurse from labor and delivery will care for the baby then the Postpartum nurse will be in charge of the baby care.
IF the mother has a midwife and normal vaginal delivery the mom and baby may be in a LDRP unit. LDRP= Labor, delivery, recovery and Postpartum all in the same room and the LDRP nurse will maintain care form start to finish.

Well a neonatal nurse is the one in the nursery with the babies. That is different from a labor and delivery nurse that actually helps with the birthing process. Both would be fun, demanding, and rewarding jobs, good luck.

Peeds RN.
It's a rather awesome field. you will love it. But it will probably be hard to get into it from the start. That is uaually a prised field that is taken by the sr. RN's. Good luck

there are lactation nurses who help out with breastfeeding.... i dont think that's what you are looking for, but all nurses that work w/ babies are classified as OB nurses.
