His father was around at the time but he did not know that he was supposed to put ice on the area to prevent swelling so it is now swollen. This happened approximately eight hours ago. His inner lip is now swollen very big but it does not appear to be painful. Can anyone tell me what i can safely do to reduce the swelling?

YES YES YES. Wish I'd seen your question sooner. You don't say the age of your baby but if he's big enough (toddler or more), give him a popsicle or an ice cream cone. The longer he takes with it, the better result you'll get. DO NOT put heat on a swollen area. Some people think you should use heat a few days after an injury but this is ERRONEOUS and will do more harm than good.

Not much you can do, you can still put ice on it if you child will let you, but if it is swollen that much then he/she hit it pretty hard and swelling is necessary.

I would put some ice on it and let him lay down on you for a while and if it doesnt work i would call a doctor or take him straight to a emergency room.

ice and infant ibuprofen.

Just check the area and make sure that no teeth are chipped, loose or missing.

If the sore is open and bleeding some more, take him to see his doctor.

Have him eat an icee or a popsicle or put him to sleep & take him to the doctors so he doesn't cry.

Ouch... hope he gets better soon. The best thing to do is constantly applying ice.
