Sounds like a one person cat. The best thing to do take your cat for walks regularly. Then
once she or he be use to walks. Take your cat to some place that doesn't have many people preferable to a cat lover.. let the cat lover be friends with your cat. Seniors Home is
a good place to take a cat to visit someone! Later you can get your cat useto going to say
a Fleamarket where there's lot's of people! Once your cat is friends with others.. she or he
will remind you when it's walk time. A regular schedule is best! Also what will help get your cat to cooperate is Temptations treats.. may cats preferred Turkey treats but liked Chicken treats too!

I have a 12 yr old cat like that. I call him TT (for terminally terrified) sometimes. When he has to go to the vet he always hides under a blanket or towel in his cage.

He knows that people seldom come to my house after dark so he always comes to snuggle with me on the couch after the sun goes down. He is a beautiful cat, looks very much like a Norwegian Forest cat and hardly any of my friends or family have ever seen him.

My cat passed away last night, he was similar....the only one in the bunch that was skittish. I called him scaredy cat half the time......but he was a wonderful cat. He just had to love you to let you come around him. The best thing you can do with a skittish kitty is to make sure he always has a hiding place he can go to and to stress to people not to chase him and such.

Good luck, my Ambercrombie will be missed..

As always our contributers give us great information....however in my experience indoor cats act this way more than not. Think vacuum cleaner, strange, noisy, scary, run & hide! When they just don't wanna deal, they "go to ground". I'd just let him be & ignore it....he's just doin' what he feels like doin' like a cat! The slow relaxing affection idea is wonderful, too...just try to think like your cat for a sec'.

How old is your kitty? Was it feral? How old was it when you got it?
If it's still young you can probably work on getting her used to people again. If she's older it could be more difficult.
I would have people over and let her hide and have the people not bother her. She should become comfortable eventually.
