If you have split ends you will really need to at least get them trimmed so that they are cut right above the splits. There is a treatment you can have done called ApHOGEE. It seals the hair and stop damaged hair from breaking or splitting by coating the length of each hair with a protective cover that doesn't wear off. It also works well and people who have such burnt hair it falling out. It is the last card up the sleeve for stylists when saving hair that is all but ruined.

At least get the ends trimmed, a good stylist will only cut a couple of inches, get it done more often, like 10 to 12 weeks to keep it healthy. U wont even miss a couple of inches, its dead and damaged anyway. Flat irons are very damaging to the hair, if u dont know how to use one, u need a good shampoo and conditioner, then a leave in conditioner after that, then b4 u straighten it use a flat iron spray, it protects the hair from the heat, let ur hair dry naturally instead of blowing it dry especially if u are going to use flat iron. I dont know wut kind of "oil" ur using but if u flat iron it after u put that on, its going to fry it.
P.S. Im a hairstylist! :)

No one loves long hair on a girl more then I do. What i've learnt over the year is at least once or twice a year you need to get the ends trimmed just to keep your hair heathy. It grows back. LOL

Well, you should get your hair trim just above where its damaged if you don't want to really cut your hair. Your hair will grow back so don't worry about it. Don't oil your hair at night.
