Who is the parent in this situation?
If you feed into this bad habit it will continue. HELLO. Then next thing you know you have a 250 lb 8 year old. Get a grip. Discipline.
Also you may want to take him to a pediatrician for examination. I SUGGEST CHECKING HIM FOR DIABETES IMMEDIATELY. The symptoms you expressed may also be the result of medication he is taking especially if he on a long term steroid use.
2 year olds sleep in there own bed. Period.

I would suggest when he wakes up in the middle of the night hungry, give him a glass of water instead of food. It will help fill his tummy to get rid of the hunger pangs, and he won't be developing bad eating habits, or gaining unnecessary weight.
As far as why he's asking for food in the night, he could be going through a growing spurt, he could have a metabolism issue, or it could be psychological, etc etc. There are a lot of reasons why this could be going on. You really should consult with his pediatrician on why this is going on to rule out diseases and parasites and such.
Another thing you might try is starting the transition of sleeping in his own bed. It's gonna be REALLY hard at first, but make a special ordeal about it. You can call it his big boy bed, or something. I made the mistake of letting my youngest sleep with me for far too long as well. He didn't like it when he had to go to his own bed. But we stuck with it, and now he hates sleeping in anyone else's bed. LOL

I have had the absolute same problem with my son. He got to be about 2 1/2 and all of a sudden all he wanted to do at night is eat. We would feed him before bed and then he would fall asleep. Then after we went to bed, he would get up and look for food and turn the tv on or the computer etc. It was like he just didnt need to sleep. It even got so bad that in the middle of the night we got up and found him on the kitchen floor with eggs, a bowl, syrup, cheese and everything else and he told us that he was hungry and wanted to make pancakes! So I talked to our doctor and she said that really there wasnt much to do about it. So, we ended up unplugging the tv and such and putting a refrigerator lock on the frig. I found one at walmart for about 3 dollars. Since then, he has stopped getting up and back to his normal routine.

If your already have a healthy eating schedule and you know he is not really hungry because he has already ate then it might be a number of things: ( you should talk to your childs doctor first) Your child may be so active that hes burning all the calories he eats. You child may have worms which cause sleeplessness, tossing and turning, nightmares, and increase in appetite, which can be treated and it isn't that rare.He may just want to get up for attention or to avoid sleep and using food as an excuse. He may be nervous about something and uses food for comfort. etc. There are so many I couldn't possibly type them all but my best advice is talk to your childs doctor.

If he isn't overweight, I would have him eat foods that offer more calories. He will not starve if he doesnt eat in the middle of the night. Offer him a glass of water and tell him he has to wait till morning to eat breakfast. Maybe this will make him eat larger meals during the day because his body will know he has to fulfil his calories in the day time, not 24 hours a day.

Have him evaluated by a to doctor.. I saw a program on TLC or somewhere that highlighted two kids. They ate constantly ( and also had other bevahoiral problems too). It was a disease that made their brains not acknowledge that they had enough to eat already. I wish I could remeber the name to be more helpful. Anyhow, the parents had to lock cabinets and fridges to keep the kids out. They would continually try to break them open and throw huge fits whenever they couldn't eat.

surely, you have had him to the doctor? and had plenty of allergy testing? it sounds like he should not be sleeping with you he cant do that the rest of his life. he probably has a high metabolism, but as long as you are giving him plenty to eat had him to the doctor to check for any abnormalities, give him a small bedtime snack there is nothing else you can do at this point, take him to a specialist.
