I am purchasing a breeding pair of White German Shepherds, and i would like to show them in Obdience and Confirmation in UKC. I plan on raising Shepherds, and id like to show them as well. But ive never shown dogs before, ive only bred dogs in the past. Any information on showing dogs would be great.

The best thing you could do would be to join an all-breed club first of all, find good handling classes to attend to teach you how to handle and get socialization and training for your dogs. When they've had some training, go to a few fun matches to get the dogs used to the atmosphere of a show, practice handling and just have fun and meet people. You'll also learn how dog shows operate, you can talk to people about obedience classes and find classses with qualified trainers who use methods you agree with.

Joining a german shepherd club would be beneficial because you can learn about your breed more in-depth, get grooming and handling tips for your breed and see a lot of other shepherds which will teach you a lot about your breed.

Have fun showing and training your new dogs!

You can contact UKC directly at:
http://www.ukcdogs.com/RegBreedGroups.htm
you should be able to find the parent breed club and then a local breed club. If you talk with other breeders in the area they can help you with teaching your dogs how to correctly go about a show ring, how to stack, ect. Also check out some AKC shows too. They have a show schedule on the website...www.AKC.org.
http://www.akc.org/events/conformation/beginners.cfm
At the very least it will help you understand more about showing. Good luck with it all. My parents used to breed and show...I also handled in both Junior and normal.

Find a dog show in your area and go. There you can talk to other handlers. Once you have your dogs, make sure you register them(White Shepherds cannot be registered with the AKC, but I'm not sure with the UKC regulations). Also, find obedience classes to attend and most of all...HAVE FUN!!!

Attend a few shows, meet people who show, go to the UKC site and get info on shows being held, get the book SHOW ME! a dog show primer by d.Caroline Coile. It is a very informative book and offers many suggestions for training your dog to show and for getting started in showing.

The best way is to join an "All Breed Club" (they host the dog shows) as close as possable to where you live, and get involved. Most will hold handling classes, and that is the best way there is to learn about showing dogs.
