Back when you were a young man it was "required" for a woman to be married. This is 2006 and for the past 20 years it has been accepted in most of the US to be a single mom. If your grandaughter does not want the cihild she can put it up for adoption. If she wants the baby and is just having problems with parenting the child then she can take parenting classes. Any psychology office should be able to tell you where she can get in to a parenting class.
IF it is money she needs then she can apply for assistance from the state. If she lives with you you will have to give your information as well. There is also WIC (women infants and children)

You should probably be supportive because she's going through some tough times. What SHE needs to do however, is seriously think about all her options. Is she going to keep the baby or give it up for adoption? If she keeps it, how will she support it? Is she still in school, or have a job? Will she be able to earn enough money to raise this child? Questions like these need to be addressed. However, all of this should have been thought out before she decided to have the baby instead of getting an abortion.

It would be helpful if you take her in to talk to a family counselor, or someone who has dealt with girls in your granddaughter's situation.

Hi Oliver!

First of all a lovely family. Lovely home.

If your grandaughter does not want the baby call Social Services and someone will adopt the baby. There are many people who would love a child to care for.

I guess this is the last thing you need to worry about.. But becoming a mums a big responsibility she may just need to take each day slowly & she can get in touch with her doctor who may run help groups that she can go along to & see shes not the only one. And yes it may of been wroug to have a child out of marrige but thats what happens now. Good luck.

He did not "give" her a baby. She and him had relations and conceived a child. It is a 50/50 type of thing. She needs to go to plan parent hood and wic.

i guess this is upsetting your sensibilities ... maybe you should be more supportive of their efforts to care for the child not an easy thing in these days .. what did you do when bringing up your own children?
