The Pope's quote is taken totally out of context. He makes a faux pas in an attempt to reach out the Muslim world, and THAT enrages them. I say, um well I can't say it in the Religion section, but I say Islam is off it's rocker just now.

DON'T YOU DARE REPORT THIS!!! IT'S AN ATTEMPT TO START A DIALOGUE, NOT AN ATTACK ON YOUR PROPHET!

I have not heard Muslim leaders come out and condemn those Muslims who commit mass murder in the name of their God. If they are truly relegion of peace this is the time for them to speak."

The pope was right to say what he has said and
for such a peaceful religion the followers of Islam have a tendency to use “the threat of violence” when they don’t like what they hear.

If Muslims were as quick to publicly condemn the suicide bombers who cowardly kill and maim in the name of Islam, then maybe we'd start taking other things they whinge about more seriously.

Its ok for Islam to print, say and spread anti christian and anti semetic propaganda. As soon as someone writes a book, says anything or even draws a cartoon even remotely anti Islamic, the death threats and the bombings and the looting and sacking of embassies etc starts.

Here we go again! Dare to say anything which could be construed as criticism of Islam, and the usual bandwagon of vilification and hatred gets underway.

Why not wonder "why do people see us in this light; why do people say such things about us?" and seek to change perceptions?!

By giving the usual reaction, Muslims merely reinforce the stereotypical view - it perpetuates the vicious circle.
With all the ongoing crisis in the middle east, as far as I can see, the quote makes a valid point.

If Muslim world's anger can simply be aroused by a quote, it's probably time to get some anger management.

I am DEEPLY tired of the islamics throwing their hands up in horror every time someone even remotely criticises their religion, and yet they feel it is okay to savage anyone (figuratively and literally) that is not of their faith.

Tolerance works both ways; if they want non-islamics to accept them, then maybe they should try to accept that not every living thing wants to be a muslim.

'No real effort to understand Islam'. Oh boo-hoo-hoo. Since when was the onus suddenly on everyone else to understand Islam? People make judgements based on what they see and experience over time. What else is there to understand? Sounds like a spoilt teenager wailing 'no one understands me, I'm so special and unique'. Why doesn't Islam make more effort to understand why a fair number of people dislike it so much?

Instead of Muslims attacking the Pope on his statement, they should be stopping the terrorist groups etc. Why can Muslims sit back and say nothing about attacks in the west but shout with anger when someone questions there way of spreading Islam. Moderate muslims have to choose the sword or democracy there is no in between.
Simple question: Do records show that Mohammed did say something along these lines? Given how he behaved, the answer is probably yes.

Yet again, Muslims are trying to rewrite their own violent history, shutting down any *factual* discussion of history by pretending to be offended rather than countering arguments with facts and getting us to give up our own valuable freedom of speech.
I am not surprised that the Muslims are complaining, all they do. Even historical quotes seem to ruffle there feathers. Yet when they say anything about Christianity or the West we just sit there and take it.

They can only dish out criticism not take it.
How about all the scum that rant and rave on our streets about how evil the West is and openly rejoice in the events of 9/11, retract all their statements?

Once again the Muslims/Islam are having another cry about some words someone has said. This shows how weak Islam is as a religion, say or draw something and they get upset BORING. My faith and beliefs in my own religon transend any petty words or drawings....
Time for Islam to grow up and become part of the world community that we live in....

He was mentioning an historical fact. Islam is the only world religion who's so called "prophet of peace" spread his word by the sword. Did Jesus or Buddha ever take up arms and resort to violence? No. Any religion that leaves room for interpretation of violence, justifies suicide bombing and advocates the repression of women cannoty be viewed as a religion of peace. If Muslims wish us to view thier religion as peaceful then they need to learn tolerance of other views and stop their murdering.

Surely Islam's ridiculously disproportionate response to things such as this and the Mohammed cartoons will only tarnish Islam's image yet further?

For heavens sake. The muslims are upset AGAIN. Are these people really that childish and insecure that every single comment upsets them.
Wouldn't it be so nice to have even a couple of days out from this constant whingeing. What offends most here is that our lives are constantly dominated by this nonsense. Why don't these people grow up?

Only few thousands demonstrated, the majority of a millard and two hundred millions did not!
I do not really care about what this old man said, we are what we are, we do not give a sh.t about what anyone think of us. If you think we are good or bad, terrorists or not!!! what this old man said is a part of secret agenda by the Bush and extreme right wings in the west to trigger more hate and anger in the Muslim world. He knew well what he said, he knew what the reaction would be. He saw this few month ago when the pigs from Denmark drew insulting picture of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Unbelievable, they steal the land (Iraq,Palestine, Afghanistan), steal the wealth and oil, kill the people, insult the most precious symbols that these people got left which is their faith! again we do not give a s.it of what he said or what you guys think. We are a milliard and two hundred millions, you can steal our land and wealth but you will not be able to steal our believe! we believe, love and respect Jesus. I say it because our religion has taught us to do so unlike some other low people claim to be civilised

Well there are some religions that have people who are very are touchy and totally undemocratic, where the leaders generally have their own agenda, one of them happens to be Islam. Just imagine the fate of the person/s who threatened all Muslims to fore sake their religion and become Christian, as the Al Qede recently did for Americans. Overall Islam and their adherents are good people, as is the religion, except that they are swayed easily by their religious leaders, who offer them material pleasures even after death - such as untold wealth, houris, etc.

A world figure such as the pope knows that this is a group of very reactionary and volatile people should have been more careful, instead of trying to join a few of the terrorists ilk by going to their level.

No more than you can say about the Christian religion without getting all Christians 100% angry. This question is ignorant, stereo typical BS. Have you met every Muslim in the world? No, then you cannot generalize this way. I know many Muslims that are not angry about what the Pope said. And I know many non Muslims who ARE angry about what he said. Go figure huh, not everyone of a certain group fits into your prejudice little world.

I asked a similar question yesterday . and it sparked quite a good debate. However, some idiot has decided to have the question removed, and I got a violation e-mail. So it seems that no, you can,t say anything at all about Islam ,even asking a question about the Pope . Long may you be about, but I don't think your question will be allowed to stand as the Muslims rule this site. Good luck.

I believe you already know my feelings on this, so I'll just sum them up again by saying that the Muslims who are acting in such a manner really need to just GROW UP!

They'll never be taken seriously until they learn how to better communicate with the world as a whole...

Speaking of communication (nice segue, huh?), I couldn't confirm your e-mail address through the Y!A e-mail system.

I'll talk to you about the matter "elsewhere"...

It's a misunderstanding....apparently it was a quote. This kind of misunderstanding happens to us common people....I remember when I was misunderstood like that - nothing religious, but also a quote....my intention was the exact opposite, but then all of a sudden BAAAM! ....taken absolutely out of context....it made me sad, but then angry...I felt like the person expected something that mean from me without really trying to understand- very frustrating. It must be hard to be a Pope...amazing to me that something like it can happen to someone of such importance. I hope the intellectuals of the Islam world will try to open up and read that statement once more (or many times more if necessary) and apologize to him!...wishful thinking.

I will counter your question with one of my own. not as an attack or to be snippity, but to make you think.

is there anything that a satanist can say even slightly critical of Christianity without upsetting the majority, if not 100% of the christian community?

The answer is a resounding "NO!" because religious leaders/teachings have already made them "the enemy" in each other's eyes.

Anger management is totally in the hands of the Muslim mullahs...they can orchestrate a show of violence by clicking their fingers, the individual ordinary Joe Muslims just do as directed.

It's what makes these religions so dangerous LARGE GROUPS OF OTHERWISE GOOD PEOPLE SO EASILY MANIPULATED TO DO EVIL BECAUSE OF RELIGION.

I'M MUSLIM AND OPEN MINDED AS ANY OTHER BROTHERS. i'VE BEEN ATTACKED MANY TIMES BY PROVOKING QUESTIONS AND STATEMENTS DEGRADING ISLAM. I NEVER GOT ANGRY BUT INSTEAD FACED AND ANSWERED COOLY THOSE WHO ANTAGONIZED.I THINK IT'S BETTER BECAUSE THE LAST LAUGH IS ON THE INSULTER.
I CAN'T BLAME WHY OTHER MUSLIM GOT HEATED UP BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE A NATURAL REACTION OF ANYONE, WHATEVER THEIR FAITH MAYBE, WHEN SOMETHING THEY LOVED DEARLY IS INSULTED OR ACTED NEGATIVELY AND VIOLENTLY WITH. I WOULD SOMETIMES GET ANGRY WHEN SOMEONE SAID BAD THINGS ABOUT ISLAM MORE THAN WHEN SOMEONE INSULTS ME PERSONALLY. ISN'T THAT WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE BY CHRISTIANS TOO, LOVE GOD ABOVE ALL?
EVER HEARD OF YVONNE RIDLEY, A BRITISH TABLOID JOURNALIST WHO AT FIRST HATED ISLAM WHEN SHE WAS A CAPTIVE BY THE TALIBAN BUT SUBSEQUENTLY CONVERTED TO ISLAM AFTER SHE WAS BACK IN BRITAIN AND STUDIED IT?CHECK IT OUT ON NEWSWEEK MAGAZINE AUG 26,2002.SHE SAID THERE ANGRILY WHY " I LOST FAITH IN CHRISTIANITY DURING THE SEIGE OF MANGER SQUARE....NOT ONE LOUSY BISHOP STOOD UP. IF THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS, WHY SHOULD I CARE?"(QUOTED)
IT IS A GREAT SHAME TO GET ANGRY WHEN ONE'S FAMILY HONOR IS INSULTED, BUT NOT REACTING WHATSOEVER WHEN GOD TO WHOM WE ARE INDEBTED AND TO HIS PROPHETS ARE INSULTED OR CRITICIZED.
I JUST DON'T REMEMBER ANY COMMANDMENTS BY GOD THAT WE BE ANGRY AT THE SLIGHTEST PROVOCATION. ONE THING I REMEMBER IS THE COMMANDMENT THAT.....IN THE NAME OF GOD, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST MERCIFUL SAID....."FIGHT IN THE WAY OF GOD AGAINST THOSE WHO FIGHT AGAINST YOU, BUT BEGIN NOT HOSTILITIES, FOR GOD LOVED NOT AGGRESSORS.'
