I see that free is the ideal software that you would like however, caution needs to be taken when using these applications. The problem is that more often than not these free cleaners are very aggressive. In other words, they sometimes flag some registry entries as a problem and they're really not. In fact, you may have need of the entries that they think should be deleted. That being said, I would stick to a commercial grade registry cleaner such as StompSoft's Registry Repair. The advantages of commercial software equate to a program that is not overly aggressive in its cleaning and more importantly commercial software offers technical support in case you run into problems whereas freeware is often unsupported.

There are probably a few of these programs out there. I would advise serious caution, as I've just had to remove about 6 of these "free" programs from a computer. After they loaded, they started giving frequent pop ups demanding some money for their real product. Fortunately, Norton took them out when it was installed. The free programs were supposed to clean out spyware, remove viruses, possibly fix the registry, and erase tracks.

If you have a particular problem, then look at the more reputable firms. They often have specific free fixes for specific problems. There are also a number of folks who have written procedures for getting rid of various problem programs.

You can use Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. It's free and makes a prenamed backup before cleaning what it has found to be bad registry entries. You can find it at any of the following:

Not that I know thats free.Plus watch out for the ones that advertise free..Because it isn't usually free after a month and then they are so deep into your system it takes a cleaner just to get that out.I have McAfee with all three cds. it has everything and it is only 39.00 Anti- virus, quick clean and personal firewall. . It does everything and it is the same price as some anti viruses.Good luck

Go to http://www.macecraft.com and download RegSupreme 1.4 (that's the free version). That should sort out your registry. I use the pro version along with Easycleaner (http://www.toniarts.com)
