I tend to think that Satan is actually an aspect of God.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Na uh. Not me. Nope. No way. That is a ridiculous thought. LOL

Well YES it is in the bible that he could roam free, and do tempation. So if that is not permission, I don't know what is!!!

Wasn't there also a guy in the bible that Jesus said that satan could do anything to, just not kill him? I think it was Job; anyway that is why I stay away from those old myths. Nothing makes sense and everyone interpets it all differently anyway. How does one actually know the truth within all the lies and decete?

Good question, makes one think! :)

Yes, the devil has to have God's permission to do anything. Check out the book of Job in the Bible in the first few chapters.

people do all the evil

those who believe in the devil still believe that his purpose is get people to choose evil

God gives people permission to choose, thats what makes us people

if God chose for us in everything there would be no evil choices by people and therefore no evil on the earth

there would also be no real "good" because everything would be done by compulsion

it is only our free choice that allows us be good or evil, and of course allows us to be human

The Devil did choose for himself, when he was an angel in the presence of God, to turn against God and to do evil. There is no permission of God involved there. But He (God) would not restrict him of his choice, for it is not the nature of God to force something on someone. He allows everyone to make them their own choices for themselves either evil or good and to enjoy the consequences thereof. For it is only when one realizes the consequences of his or her actions and would choose good or to follow God upon their own free will, that he or she (even devil) really enjoys at his heart and not because somebody has forced them to do so.

YES! Satan deceived Eve and through her he led Adam to sin. Since Adam was the first man and head of the human race, Satan claimed that Adam had chosen him to become "the god of this world" (2 Corinthians 4:4).
The chaos in this world is caused by the fact that Satan is fighting to hold on to his claim to be the god of this world. He makes this claim on the basis that many inhabitants of the world have chosen him to be their leader. The Bible says, "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" (Romans 6:16). God has given his ten commandments as guidelines for what is right and wrong. He offers the power of the new birth in order to write these laws in the heart. Many, however, choose to neglect the offer of a new birth and to live outside God's will.
The Bible says that in the last days, ". . . evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived" (2 Timothy 3:13). Because of this the Lord allows the destroying angels to work (Psalm 78:49). Satan claims that it would be unfair for God to interfere with man's free choice. Satan claims that God must allow those who choose Satan to follow him. God lets Satan demonstrate to the universe the consequence of sin when Satan has his own way.The Bible says, “ . . .and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?" (Deuteronomy 31:17). This is the message that we may learn from calamities. They can lead us as individuals and as a nation to seek God more fully.
God is Love, and His character is perfectly unselfish and just. Therefore, his own love prevents Him from doing anything that is unfair

yep that's why bad things happen. good question. Do you really god would do bad things to people? I don't think he would that's why he gives the devil permission to do that. If you think about it for a few seconds it makes sense

Actually, yes, but he's only leting things happen that will grow us as christains, he wants christain to grow and be more faithful, if God didn't want anything to happen to us then he could stop everything but he has to let certain things happens that will grow christains. He has to be doing it with God's permission cause God is the God of everything, he controls everything, even people that are doing evil if God wanted he could just wipe them all out but once again he has to let certain things happen that will grow christains.

He was given right to the earth and to people, although that right was revoked and given back to men when christ died.

People dont walk in that power, so the devil keeps right on going like always.

Everything has a time. His time is still now, but he'll be held accountable just the same.
