Welcome to the wonderful world of JRT parenthood. Did you know that veterinarians and their staff call them Jack Russel Terrorists because they are so squirrely, opinionated and stubborn? Not to mention smart as whips and figure out exactly how to get their own way.
You need obedience training, PRONTO. These dogs turn everything into a battle of wills and really need a firm hand training them. Classes teach you how to train your dog so that you don't drive both of you nuts. Petsmart's program is the best because it offers free "go backs" and you're gonna need refresher courses for the rest of the dog's life.
There are activities for JRT. Flyball, agility, races, "earth dog" competitions (human made mazes underground, where the dog "hunts" caged rats.). Contact breed clubs in your area. Your vet may have contact information, or ask whoever you got her from. You should be able to find all this on the Internet as well.
They really do make wonderful pets, you just have to train them and redirect all that energy.
Good Luck.

You don't! It is who they are. If you didn't want a hyper dog, you should have researched better. Jack Russell's are extremely energetic dogs who need lots of exercise, mental stimulation and training. The best thing you can do is keep her busy. Teach her lots of tricks, (don't forget basic obedience) and give her lots of opportunity to expend all that energy. They are awesome dogs, but take a lot of time and commitment.

so its pretty much agreed that JRT's are quite active.
Walks, play ball, hide and seek, any activity- and lots of it.
I am wondering why you weren't told this when you got the dog. I mean when you were doing research to find out about the breed before you got it. There were no suggestions in any of that information? I would refer back to some of the books and or websites that you looked at before you got her for some tips on maintaining their high energy levels.
Good Luck, and have fun with her!! I am sure she already has some antics that make you laugh!!

Ya, uuuummmmm, good luck with that!! The only calm JRT dogs I've seen are ones that are at horse barns where they have jobs to do and are busy throughout the whole day. These dogs have years & years of being bred to 'go to ground' and work all day - it's in your dog's blood meaning she'll probably slow down when she gets to be 15 years old, maybe.
