They are just lilke any other dog, they all have the potential to be dangerouse.
A 6lb 2yr old Pomerianan mauled and killed an 6month old baby, while uncle was fixing the babys bottle.
February 4, 2006, Lunenburg, MA. Connor B. Lourens, 7, was killed by a 140-pound English mastiff dog which belonged to his neighbors. The boy playing in his neighbors' backyard, with the son of the dog owners. The dog apparently had never bitten before. This accident follows a pattern that parents need to be aware of. Children are often attacked by dogs in backyards, probably because of territorial instincts. Parents need to learn the type of dog in every house where their children play.
April 24, 2004, Sifton (Clark County), Washington (State). After playing with a neighbor's children inside their home, 8-year-old Johnnie Streeter was killed by their two dogs. The boy was found in their backyard. The dogs were half bull mastiff, half German shepherd. The owners stated that the dogs had never bitten anyone before killing the child.
The month of August 2006 saw two human deaths caused by dogs, and both deaths were in Florida. On August 18th, a Presa Canario ripped the jugular vein from the neck of its owner, Shawna Willey, 30, in Tamarac, Florida. She was giving the dog a bath and it bit her a half dozen times. This is the same breed of dog that killed Diane Whipple (see below). On August 30th, a man was killed by a boxer that was confined in a dog pen, in Miami.
From the DOG BITE LAW STATISTICS.
So it doesn't really matter what breed of dog it is, its on how they are raised, trained and socialized. Unfortunately alot of people get dogs as an acessory and nothing more, they don't research breed characteristics, how to properly raise, train and socialize their pet and that I believe is what causes the majority of trouble.
Yes, some dogs are bred for aggression, but again the fault shouldn't fall on the dog, it should fall on the breeder, trying to aquire that trait.
Pit bull dogs are extreemly intellegent and alot of people who know very little, nothing at all or are too proud to continue to educate them and their dogs, will have their dogs run all over them. This is true with the Rottweiller and Doberman Pincher as well.
Pit Bull are very loyal, loving and faithfull pets, they will put their life on the line before some one they care about. However, people who have any dog should be well educated in canine behavior and ensure they have properly trained and socialized their pet dog.
All dogs should always be supervised with children and never left alone with them.
Its unfair to blame a certain breed.

I don't think that all Pit Bulls are dangerous. It all depends on how they are raised as puppies. If they are well socialized, and trained in the right way then they could be very loving loyal pets.
What makes them mean, is the way they are raised. If they are raised to fight then "YES" they are going to be extremely dangerous. If they are abused then they are going to be frightened like any dog would be, and "YES" that can also make them dangerous, seems the only way they know to protect themselves is to bite. Which their jaw muscels are so strong that's what make their bites so dangerous. Also, if they are teased that can also make them dangerous. But, that's with any breed of dog.
I don't think I would recommend getting a stray Pit Bull, or one that you are not fully aware of it's background. If I were going to get a Pit Bull, then I would want it as a puppy, from a respectful breeder that has well socialized it, so it's not as aggressive. I've seen Pit Bulls that are some of the most friendly dogs, then I've seen others that have acted like they would like to rip your head off. But, I've also seen Rotties that are the same exact way, so it's just not the dog it's totally how it is raised!!

It all depends on the owner.
A friend of mine has a pit bull, and you couldn't even tell. They show him love and compassion, and they get it back. It is one of the nicest dogs I have ever been around.
The pit bulls that get aggressive are the fault of their owners.
Plus, pit bulls aren't the only dog that gets aggressive. If a dog isn't treated correctly it can snap just as a pit bull does.
There was a dog attack a couple years ago here and guess what kind of dog did it? A golden retriever, hmm, bet you didn't see that coming.

ANY dog is dangerous if it isn't properly trained or socialized at any early age. I have one and he is not dangerous at all, but I took a lot of time with him and would with any dog no matter the breed. People who believe they are dangerous usually have been watching too much tv and havent done any research on the subject. Dont get me wrong there are some dangerous ones out there along with many other breeds it the OWNER that makes a dog dangerous.

I was once driving by and I saw a pit bull with (what i thought was) a rag doll in its mouth. It was shaking it vigorously! But then I noticed a leach coming out of its mouth and a screaming girl. It was the girls little puppy in its mouth. This things are dangerous! Another time a pit bull took a chunk of my little cousins leg off! And he was like 7-8 at the time.

Pit bulls raised kindly are VERY friendly and would never do harm. But if raised to be mean, they are quite dangerous. And they're illegal in some places because of the reputation the mean ones have gained.

Any breed of dog can be dangerous....it depends how they are treated.
Some dogs are aggressive because they have been mistreated. They are hungry, in pain, and/or scared.
Other dogs are fear biters...they have a timid nature.
While other dogs are aggressive because they don't respect people. There owners spoil them and they think they are the dominant dog.
Some pit bulls have a tendency to be more aggressive than other breeds... yet, it is how they are handled. If you get him/her spayed/neutered, and treat him/her treat him correctly...there shouldn't be a problem.
Many people beleive that pit bulls are dangerous because of the steriotype on television. These dogs that are on tv are used for fighting... wouldn't you be mean if you were starved so that your owner could profit from you fighting over food???
Hope I could help

No, they are not, unless you train them to be that way, like beat them or taunt them. I have a two year old pitt bull and she is the friendliest dog. I also have three children, 13 snakes, 3 lizards, 1 rabbit, numerous amounts of mice and gerbils and the dog doesn't harm any of them. It all depends on how the owner treats it. My dog is very protective of me and my family, ecspecially my children, a person wouldn't be able to break into my house and hurt any of us cause the dog would probably rip thier arm off, but she would only do that cause she loves us.

**** no, I have a Pit Bull and he is the sweetest dog ever. He never bites or is agressive. It's all in how you train them... if you smack them in the face and are agressive towards them they are going to retaliate and try to defend themselves eventually. If you just be patient and use a stern tone of voice instead they will be more receptive. But... ya know.... people are idiots.

Not all of them. It's not "pit-bulls" that are dangerous, it's the people that train them to bite and be mean that are dangerous. If a pitbull (or any dog really) is trained to bite than it will bite. If it's trained to be loveable, and sweet than it will be loveable and sweet.
