I would have to say the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Unlike most Hounds (a.k.a. Beagles and Bloodhounds) they only bark if there is a real reason to. You better go check it out if they do! Otherwise they are generally very quiet in the home, and very laid back in their personality. They wait until the get outside to really show their stuff! They are awesome for guard dog duty if that is what you are looking for. They were created to hunt lions and keep them at bay until the hunter could come and take care of them. They also kept the lions and other predatiors away from the women and children and protected them while the man was out hunting for food. Mine especially shows her stuff when my fiancee is away from the home and I am alone! Contrary to popular belief they don't eat much as one would think a Large Breed dog would. I only feed mine 1 1/2 cups twice a day. They also don't cost much to groom, only requiring a weekly brushing with a rubber type brush to remove the dead hairs. And then mine doesn't shed at all for days! They are a very good dog breed for people with allergies. My finacee has allergies, and he doesn't have any symptoms with this dog in the home. And bathing is a cinch, these dogs are your basic wash and wear dogs and they take only about an hour to dry. I bathe mine every week, only once a week, along with some good brushing before and after bathing to remove the dead hairs. Does anyone else know of this breed, and what are your opinoins on the dog?

I am a little dog fan. I currently have a Pomeranian, and she's so sweet, and loves to cuddle, and likes "EVERYONE", she's not I guess what you would call the typical yapping Pom, and not very friendly. I think it's all on how they are raised, and socialized as puppies.
My next favorite would be a Yorkie, I am going to have one someday! They are just the cuttest little furbabies, and everyone I've met has been just as friendly as can be! Maltese are also very cute too!! :)
I like big dogs too though Rotties, German Shepards, and Huskies. I've had all in the past, and they've all been just sweet as can be. I think a lot of the bigger dogs get bad names because of the way they are raised. If they are raised good, their temperment is good. If they are raised rough, then they aren't going to be your friendliest dog. I think all dogs are my favorites though, I am a total animal lover!! :)

I think the most loveable, loyal sweet dogs in the world are pit bulls. They are so misunderstood. Small dogs are mean and bite more. It's just that when pits finally do bite, it counts. But they love their people tremedously and are wonderful pets.

Black Labs, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds. They're all so big and loyal and very handsome.
