Both the catholic and muslim religions are false religions that have horribly twisted the true meaning of the Scriptures throughout history in many ways. May be we should consider forming a new religion with a better understanding of the Bible to replace the false religions of the world. As a Muslim I do not defend the action of burning the Popes effigy. I think the people doing it are stupid and should learn more about how the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him lived his life. I have always had respect for the pope and was disgusted to see that people would burn an effigy of him. I however am not against peaceful protests and have heard that many have taken place but as usual the peaceful protests do not make the headlines.

i will try and answer for them, the usa and britain along with whoever else joined the various "coalittions of the willing" which are around at the minute are fighting both an illegal war in iraq and a dubious war in afghanistan. the west has more or less fully backed israels little excursion into the lebanon and apart from the odd diplomatic aid they have done little for the people of palastine.
the little cartoon thingy that really demonstrated the wests powerful media's contempt for islam and the average muslims feeling. but more-so than all of that there is the crusades, im sure you know all about the crusades, it was a war on islam, the catholic churchs war no-less, so when the head of the catholic church in 2006 makes comments that at the very least are extremely thoughtless and at worst could well take this new crusade to new levels its not hard to see why there are some angry muslims, the problem with us westeners is we have no care for our religions anymore so to us its hard to see why muslims get angry. all religion is non violent, its people that are violent. its a shame that someone as influential and powerful as the pope is too clumsy mouthed to realise what he was saying and the impact it would have, this may not be what you were hoping for but its my opinion and it matters to me maybe you disagree and if you do good for you, im curious to know how you would answer your own question?

For heaven's sake, why are you and so many other people so gullible and naive as to NOT see what's really going on here????
WHY DID THE POPE DELIBERATELY INCITE UNREST AND ANGER TO BILLIONS OF PEOPLE ?
THAT is the question.
The very idea that it was an 'innocent mistake' is so bloody ridiculous its pathetic. He had a script. He plans his speeches. He has advisers. He KNEW what he was doing, and knew that a fringe few would burn effigies. He also knew that the TV companies would love to film this. And he knew idiots like you would fall for it.
Thank f*** I am not a christian or a muslim. WAKE UP.

i feel i need to give a few people a bit of persective here...
this is not a case of some crack pot priest spouting his opinions in the pulpit in the deep south....
the pope is responsible for the minds of 1.1 BILLION people!!!
with this position comes the weight of responsibility.
if the premier of china (responsible for the minds of 2 billion) made an anti-american remark in a speech in shanghai.... the whole of america would be up in arms and the senseless few would be burning effigies. suffice to say, americans would know that from that remark was coming a clear sign of things to come.
So now go back to the pope. he has just told 1.1 billion people that muslims are only capabable of violence and evil....
a) why are you suprised that the muslim community is upset?
b) 1.1 billion people now think muslims are violent and evil (yes catholics are that easily guided by the pontif)
c) do you really think with all this anymosity that this is going to blow over. there are now 1.1 billion people who are now prepared to kill muslims because they are evil... and muslims who now feel they have no choice because not only have they got political lunitics pointing a gun at them, but 1.1 billion religious fanatics who are now prepared to kill them too.
this is not a pretty situation. question is which side will force the hand of the other and when?

If i can make a guideline....: How about we take a number of those those who evaluate the U. S. as a 'Christian in basic terms' u . s . a ., and set them to at least one position, and all the different US voters to a unique position. Then we will see how issues pan out, even as they have none yet their personal to push down and condemn. they are going to see the stability and unity between u . s ., and the terror and loathing of their personal Divided States. Cue an invasion contained in the call of God, regardless of it being un-biblical, and a lengthy civil warfare, because the sorrowful provide in to their jealousy. Oh nicely...we tried. there is very almost not something that could want to be finished, yet to climate their bitter tongues, and recognize in basic terms love for them. faith isn't any aspect in citizenship. in reality, Pagans have as a lot correct to the Earth as Christians do. Pagans in basic terms educate extra appreciation for the right to Earth. ((((hugs)))) ~Loving gentle~

They can't justify fire bombing 5 Christian Churches already either. In America though we don't retaliate against religious things. There are all religions in America. Religion has nothing to do about violence - and that was the point of the pope's speech - faith and violence don't mix - AT ALL.

I have not heard Muslim leaders come out and condemn those Muslims who commit mass murder in the name of their God. If they are truly relegion of peace this is the time for them to speak."
The pope was right to say what he has said and
for such a peaceful religion the followers of Islam have a tendency to use “the threat of violence” when they don’t like what they hear.
If Muslims were as quick to publicly condemn the suicide bombers who cowardly kill and maim in the name of Islam, then maybe we'd start taking other things they whinge about more seriously.
Its ok for Islam to print, say and spread anti christian and anti semetic propaganda. As soon as someone writes a book, says anything or even draws a cartoon even remotely anti Islamic, the death threats and the bombings and the looting and sacking of embassies etc starts.
Here we go again! Dare to say anything which could be construed as criticism of Islam, and the usual bandwagon of vilification and hatred gets underway.
Why not wonder "why do people see us in this light; why do people say such things about us?" and seek to change perceptions?!
By giving the usual reaction, Muslims merely reinforce the stereotypical view - it perpetuates the vicious circle.
With all the ongoing crisis in the middle east, as far as I can see, the quote makes a valid point.
If Muslim world's anger can simply be aroused by a quote, it's probably time to get some anger management.
I am DEEPLY tired of the islamics throwing their hands up in horror every time someone even remotely criticises their religion, and yet they feel it is okay to savage anyone (figuratively and literally) that is not of their faith.
Tolerance works both ways; if they want non-islamics to accept them, then maybe they should try to accept that not every living thing wants to be a muslim.
'No real effort to understand Islam'. Oh boo-hoo-hoo. Since when was the onus suddenly on everyone else to understand Islam? People make judgements based on what they see and experience over time. What else is there to understand? Sounds like a spoilt teenager wailing 'no one understands me, I'm so special and unique'. Why doesn't Islam make more effort to understand why a fair number of people dislike it so much?
Instead of Muslims attacking the Pope on his statement, they should be stopping the terrorist groups etc. Why can Muslims sit back and say nothing about attacks in the west but shout with anger when someone questions there way of spreading Islam. Moderate muslims have to choose the sword or democracy there is no in between.
Simple question: Do records show that Mohammed did say something along these lines? Given how he behaved, the answer is probably yes.
Yet again, Muslims are trying to rewrite their own violent history, shutting down any *factual* discussion of history by pretending to be offended rather than countering arguments with facts and getting us to give up our own valuable freedom of speech.
I am not surprised that the Muslims are complaining, all they do. Even historical quotes seem to ruffle there feathers. Yet when they say anything about Christianity or the West we just sit there and take it.
They can only dish out criticism not take it.
How about all the scum that rant and rave on our streets about how evil the West is and openly rejoice in the events of 9/11, retract all their statements?
Once again the Muslims/Islam are having another cry about some words someone has said. This shows how weak Islam is as a religion, say or draw something and they get upset BORING. My faith and beliefs in my own religon transend any petty words or drawings....
Time for Islam to grow up and become part of the world community that we live in....
He was mentioning an historical fact. Islam is the only world religion who's so called "prophet of peace" spread his word by the sword. Did Jesus or Buddha ever take up arms and resort to violence? No. Any religion that leaves room for interpretation of violence, justifies suicide bombing and advocates the repression of women cannoty be viewed as a religion of peace. If Muslims wish us to view thier religion as peaceful then they need to learn tolerance of other views and stop their murdering.
Surely Islam's ridiculously disproportionate response to things such as this and the Mohammed cartoons will only tarnish Islam's image yet further?
For heavens sake. The muslims are upset AGAIN. Are these people really that childish and insecure that every single comment upsets them.
Wouldn't it be so nice to have even a couple of days out from this constant whingeing. What offends most here is that our lives are constantly dominated by this nonsense. Why don't these people grow up?
