I have always left a radio on for my dogs. Also did so in a kennel where I worked and it really helps them calm down. Choose an "easy listening" station and not TOO loud--just enough to make him/her feel like they aren't alone! Plus a t-shirt with your scent and a stuff animal and toys and chewies, as others suggested. The radio, or even a TV, really seems to help. Plus, give him time and remember he's just a BABY! Please be patient and soon it'll all be better!

Just be patient with him.

The first weeks you are together will determine how the puppy will respect/treat you for the remainder of his life.

If he whines and you go let him out, he is going to assume that he is the boss and can get his way.

Try putting him far from where you sleep at night, so you can't hear him.

It should take a couple of days of protest, but he will figure it out.

When you let him out in the morning, that is when you can show him love.

If his whining becomes unbearable, you can put his kennel in your room. That way he is with you but still in his kennel.

Good luck

Yes I would suggest just being patient, you might try partially covering the door of his kennel with a light sheet to block him seeing you moving around after he is in bed - as sort of a lights out tactic
Dont take him out just because he is crying or you create a habit as he will think if he cries long or loud enough you will let him out
Alot of kennel manufacturers include a booklet with their kennels on how to crate train your pet, did you get one with your kennel?
Hope this helps

We would give our puppy a hot water bottle (a liquid laundry detergent bottle filled with hot water and wrapped in a blanket that we had used so it had our smell on it.) It worked OK until the water cooled off, then we had to go refill it because he'd wake up and start crying again. We'd comfort him if he really started howling, but usually, he'd drift back to sleep and he'd be OK with just one session in the middle of the night. It was a little trouble for a few weeks there, but he grew up and grew out of it. Just be patient with the little squirt--he needs to know that he can rely on you, which he'll never learn if you stay with him all the time, but you have to comfort him when he's really upset.

I put the puppies crate right beside the bed, so that if the new puppy starts to cry I can tap the top of the crate (without getting out of bed). Most of the time all the puppy needs is to be reassured that you are still there.

Ok first off make sure you feed him at night like an hour BEFORE you put him in his kennel. Next right before you put him in make sure you take him outside to go potty. Then if he still whines you can either ignore him or you can say QUIET firmly and he should be quiet but only do that once or twice so dont talk to him at all.

If you're certain he is to stay in the kennel at night. buy an old fashioned ticking clock and put in kennel with him. He's lonely and feels abandoned.

Be patient. If you want him to sleep there he will get use to it. If you take him out and let him sleep where that is the behavior he will keep. Remember he is learning to adjust to you and what you expect and want. You are training him not the other way around. Be patient and make it as comfortable as you can for him.
