I was going 80 and the speed limit was 70. I hear all the time about how people get these tickets dismissed. How can you do that? I'm a broke college student and I could use those $150 for other things.

Go to court, talk to the prosecutor. If your record is completely clean, they may offer to reduce the fine or some kind of stay of adjudication, The stay will likely cost you the full fine amount, but you would be keeping this first-time offense off your record and not affecting your insurance rates.
If it is NOT your first moving violation, then you can try talking to the prosecutor, then if you don't like the offer they make you, go to trial and hope the police officer who ticketed you doesn't appear, because if they appear for your trial and have a calibrated radar detector log, etc, you will pay the full fine and have it on your record.

I would be more worried about the points on my drivers liscense for insurance premium purposes. I would see if the county in which you acquired the ticket had a driving school, some counties will allow you to attend a driving school and if you attend they will dismiss the ticket, however you will have to pay a fee to attend the school. Tell them you are a "1st time offender", if you are, and that you ask the court for mercy since you are a college student and you are very concerned about this going against your insurance. Some judges are very accomdating to speeders because this is not a major crime.

Well first did you plead not guilty on the ticket? I have gotten tons of speeding tickets, always plead not guilty and go to court for it. They usually will cut the ticket in half if not more.Just dont give them any bullshit excuses they have heard it all. Just be honest say i know i was wrong, is there anything you can do to help me im sorry im in college and dont have alot of money right now.

The only way for it not to go on your record is if you take defensive driving. The however you still need to pay a portion of the fine and then pay for the class. Then that ticket wont go against your driving record. It will save you some monies when you get your insurance and thats about it.

my husband did. we got the ticket and did what it said on the back to fight it. and waited for the court date. the go. you have a bunch of you guys that are doing the same thing in the same room and one by one ask you why do you think you should have it dismissed and the Court guy listens and if he thinks you are right then he dismisses if he thinks you are still guilty he might lower it for you.
